On Double click

In the double click event on a field how can I make that if the name of the field is SQLPOD110-010

if left({name},3) = "SQL"
GOTO XXX external website
else
GOTO XXX external website
ENDIF

I would love some input on this tried it out but keep getting the error that it cannot find {name} this is what I have to test and I can a error
IF (left({name}) = "SQL")
{
alert("Name is a SQLPOD");
else
alert("Name is not a SQL POD");
if (number > 0)
}

If you are using inline javascript you can get detail of your field as follows:

alert({grid.Object}._getValue('G','yourfieldname',{grid.RowId}));

Guys I am REALLY new at this, and want to find out why it does not work. I have a field in a grid and when I double click on it and want to look first if a new starts with CSD or SQL. If CSD then it needs to go to an outside website XXX, when SQL then it needs to go to another outside website YYY.
How can I build this. Any help would be appreciated.

And does anybody know a good book about java script?

I put this in the ondoubleclick event for the row, and it worked as expected:

if({grid.Object}._getValue('G','FIELD_CHAR',{Grid.RowNumber})=='SQL'){
    alert('Has SQL');
}else{
    alert('Does not have SQL');
}

But now I would like when people double click on the field that if if left({name}) ="CSD"
then go to http:///www.csdkvm......
IF left({name}) = "SQL"
then go to http://www.raritan....

Wow you are fast could you send me to a link how I can find out how to use:"grid.Object}._getValue('G','FIELD_CHAR',{Grid.RowNumber})=='SQL " Tried to find out in the help system but cannot find.

Ones I click on it and go to another row, the var does not renew!

I'm not sure why the variable doesn't refresh for you. It works fine here.

If you click on "Insert Grid method..." in the Edit JavaScript Code box, you can see examples for each method. For the getValue method, clicking on the ? help link gives these examples:

//Read value in 'LASTNAME' field from the Grid part, row 4. 
//Note that field name must be uppercase.
var lname = {grid.object}._getValue('G','LASTNAME',4);

//read value in 'LASTNAME' field from the Grid part, 'current row'. 
//Note that field name must be uppercase.
var lname = {grid.object}._getValue('G','LASTNAME',{grid.rowNumber});

//Read value in 'LASTNAME' field in the Search part.
var lname = {grid.object}._getValue('S','LASTNAME');

//read value in 'LASTNAME' field in the Detail View part.
var lname = {grid.object}._getValue('D','LASTNAME');
