Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    error modifying a script?

I am getting this error all of a sudden. Any ideas.

edit: It happens in all scripts on this db - have not yet checked others.

apparently only one db is affected?? Still lost though

edit2: tried it with v7 and v9 with the same result.

    Re: error modifying a script?

It sounds like an internal A5 issue. Almost like the system.aex is corrupted.

Don't quite know how to help, but thought I'd at least give my thoughts.

Don't know if this has anything to do with the time stamp function, but Microsoft pushed through an update last night. The update was to to

resolve issues caused by revised daylight saving time and time zone laws in several countries.
Just a far out thought that is all.

Don't know much about a5_add_timestamp() function - it is not documented.

These are good thoughts, but it only happens in 1 db so far as I can tell. I did try this in another db and had no errors.

What happens if you try it in the interactive?

          Code:
          ? a5_add_timestamp("abc")
          = 'Date Created: 26-May-2010 09:03:21 AM
          'Last Updated: 26-May-2010 09:03:21 AM
          'Created By : SMathews
          'Updated By : SMathews
          abc
          There can be only one.

The error refers to line 20.
Line 20 does not have a5_add_timestamp()
              ??

It does not matter what is on line 20 in my script, the error is the same. I think it refers to an alpha script somewhere??

                  Dave:
                  You are partially correct.
I think it is referring to another script....
                  But how could that be?
You are running an autoexec script.. You can't have > one autoexec script.. So what other script could it be referring to, UNLESS one that is invoked by the autoexec script.
You gotta find which script has a5_add_timestamp() on line 20, and that's the bad one and as a wild guess (haven't had any of these questions answered yet) I am going to guess it's a timing issue.

                    Gabe,

It happens in every script in that db. Not just one and there is only 1 autoexec script.

I have checked it in other db's with no error. ??? Makes me believe it is an error in the db. I cannot save a script if I change it.

I am not sure I understand..
Say you open this db and disable the autoexec script, are you saying you still get the error if you run any other script of any kind anywhere?

Do you have any scripts running in an OnTimer event?

                          Gabe,

not when I run the script. The script runs fine. It is when I try to modify the script, any script. Say, add a variable?? or any other.

There are no timers running anywhere.

The last update by windows was 05/13/2010

                            Re: error modifying a script?

                            Hi Dave,

The error you are getting is occurring during the save of the current script/function in the Alpha 5 script called a5_add_timestamp(which is played from a function of the same name).

I can't tell you why Alpha's Script is failing, as I can't seem to get it to fail in the same way. It may be due to the settings preferences for the Code Editor time stamps.

However, I can tell you that it is error-ing out in line 20 of the a5_add_timestamp script, and that it is failing when taking the left 9 characters of the 1st line of the code, in your case 'xxx

It does this to check to see if there is a 'password line, and adjusts when the time stamp is inserted.

So my recommendation is to delete that line, or make it longer than 9 characters, before saving it.
                            Regards,

                              What are you talking about?
I could see that perhaps a5_add_timestamp() is failing internally, possibly assuming that alpha does that as a matter of routine whenever you save any script. Maybe, and if so, that would be a good point. But what does 'xxx has to do with anything?
It's a commented line in the top of the script, it is not a password. Alpha will check for a password and confirms the existence of one when you so signify, but you could put any garbage and comment it out and it won't make a difference whether it's one character or 9.
