Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Feature Packs

Just found some of the feature packs. I did not check all of them, but to upsize your app to sql, it is 249 for the feature pack.

I applaud Alpha for a good business strategy.

    Re: Feature Packs

Just downloaded the trial version and ran into the blip about feature packs. The one mentioned was for viewing the Report Preview in a form which says the Feature Pack I would have to buy is 'Layout Control Library' - which I cannot find. This looks like a great feature to have (like Quickbooks uses), but would like to know how much? Anybody using it?

      Hi Robin

If you have version 9 or version 10 (or 10.5), the report preview is a supercontrol already part of those versions.

What feature pack are you looking at - I don't see any that has to do with report preview - or did I miss something.

        Re: Feature Packs

        Hi Tom,
When I first clicked on Misc Examples and chose the Report Preview this is where the blip appeared that told me I would only have this feature during the trial after that I would have to buy a pack called "Layout control library". A link to feature packs on Alpha did not show such a pack - only stuff for the web. So is it now a Supercontrol that is included?

Here is thumbnail showing the current V10.5 with the available super controls.

I have circled the report preview.

I don't really know what the blip you read in the trial version relates to since this supercontrol was available first in Version 9 and continued in version 10, unless it is a web application supercontrol. I am not up on the web side of development so I can't answer that question.

edit: Robin, are you talking about the report preview under Miscellaneous in Alpha sports?

            Hi Tom,
Yes it was in the Misc Examples for AlphaSports. Since I am still using v8 I don't have this feature at all. Although playing around with ActiveX for a button looked promising, I could not figure out how to make one work in Report Layout in v8. Which is no doubt why they turned it into a Supercontrol! I would have bought v9 if I knew this one was in it.
