Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    QB Custom Field

A new custom field, mySalesRep, was created in QB customer job screen. Each invoice was populated with mySalesRep.

I created a pass-link table, myAging, and defined the table using store procedure as the followings.

sp_report ARAgingDetail show Aging, Blank, Date, DueDate, Name, PONumber, Terms, Text, TxnType, Txnid

    Question:
    1. When I run QB AR Aging detail report in QB, I could choose the mySalesRep which is a custom field but not in BReportBuilder.

How can I use txnid link to invoice.txnid and get to invoice.customfieldmysalesrep from the above syntax (sp_report...)

    2. I would like to filter the those AR aging invoices by mySalesRep at the time of data fresh.
How can I accomplish it ?

    3. How can I access custom field defined in QB in QReportBuilder ?

    Thanks

    Thanks for writing...

The linkage and custom fields are shown in the attached image.

    1. link by txnid
    2. filter by sales rep can be done after the refresh with the report filter
    3. custom fields are available from the tables but not usually from the sp_reports. So you can link from the sp_report to a table and work from there.

      Thanks Al for replying.

Another question is about refreshing invoice table.

When Aging report excutes sp_report ARAgingDetail and return 17 records. Then it links to invoice table which have 10,000 records.

when the report is executing, I have to refresh invoice table with 10,000 records, which may take a long time.

Is there anyway to refresh invoice table and get those 17 invoice records needed. I can put a filter to match mySalesRep=invoice.customfilemysalesrep in the report section.

            Re: QB Custom Field

SELECT * FROM Sales WHERE TxnID IN (sp_report ARAgingDetail show TxnID)

This finds all of the TxnIds in the ArAgingDetail report and extracts the data from the sales table for just those invoice/credit memos/sales recipts(shouldn't have any of those normally)

Compare the performance of this with refreshing the other tables and then let us know what you find.

Run the refresh a couple of times.. (to see if there is any difference from the first refresh with the second refresh)

I have small sets of data so far so I won't be able to tell the difference. I have 100 records in invoice table. When I did your approach using subquery, I saw ODBC staus window were refreshing invoice table 100 of 100, which is the same as refreshing invoice table itself. If I see ODBC status window show 17 of 17 when refreshing invoice tabke, i knew it would be faster.
My guest was that subquery did not really help. I will let you know when I have a real large amount data to test.

My concern was that the report may work fine now. When QB data grow, the performance drop down and my customer is going to call me to fix the problem later. I hope that it won't come to that.

Sorry Al, I did not see your 2nd post message that changed syntax, adding CALLDIRECT, into the SQL statement.
I tried this CALLDIRECT, the performance has increased noticeably. This CALLDIRECT resolved my question.

                  thanks

sp_report is a stored procedure and cannot access cutomfield directly.
                      1. create mySalesRep customfield in QB first. populate some data in invoice using mySalesRep.

                      2. Refresh invoice table in QBReportbuilder, you will see custommysalesrep field.

                      3. Create a new linked table that link invoice table and result of sp_report together at the time of refresh data.

                          Re: QB Custom Field

I am working on a QB Enterprise version 11 database, and apparently this new version of QB allows you to enter many more custom fields that previous versions. My client added 6 new fields to the Customer record in QB, but when I refresh the table in QBRB I only see 2 of the new custom fields and the previous 5 custom fields. I have refreshed the table and verified that when I refresh I am getting up-to-date data, I'm just not getting these extra fields on the customer table. Can you help me "find" the other new fields? Would they be kept in a different table?

Per our other emails about this issue, it is an Intuit issue of the product and the SDK not talking to each other. Hopefully that will get cleaned up soon by Intuit....

Otherwise you can add additional fields for reporting in QRB without using the customer fields in QB.... It's another option that might help.
