Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

This is what I'm trying to do, too. Just wondering if the example was ever delivered. Thank you.

This may not be as 'pretty' as the 'Elvis' version, but, there is a fully functional invoice sample in the Alpha Sports sample.

Re: Creating an invoice in V10

Well, you know what - I am going to produce a how to on this for everyone - here's why. Most of the the things you need to to know are not documented, now that's a real problem for people as the tools are there, but you don't know what to do with them.

It's really odd that such a great opportunity for this product to become one of the industries best could be hampered by poor communication in how to just do the basics things that are at the same time revolutionary in effect.

Here is the second reason - I don't know why I why I wrote the "Elvis has left the building" line - fact is I helped Tom in August (On an iPhone - while I was in a hospital bed) solve some of his simple issues that helped build the Invoice shown earlier as an offering that you are all waiting for.. so I thought it would be good if he completed it - any how - get this - Two days after I wrote that line I was bittern by a spider in my shed, ended up in an emergency ward waiting for treatment, they gave me some real strong pain killers..

I had to wait for a while, I picked up a computer magazine from 2009 that was on the waiting room table. The cover had that it was supplied to the hospital by the local library - I opened the Magazine and a piece of paper fell out onto my lap - it was the borrowing slip from the last person to hire the magazine.

I snapped it with my iPone - it read "Campaspe Shire Library" Account no: user... Title borrowed:

: Elvis has left the building (DVD] recording.

I'll take that as an omen, I'll let you all know when it's ready..

Cheers, and Happy Holidays you you all.

                          Pete

Re: Creating an invoice in V10

Thanks for all the information Pete and I hope you have recovered from that bite. You obviously have bigger spiders in the US than we do in the UK!
Funny how these expressions work into life. People often say dont talk the problem up and there seems to be something in that...

Your right about the need for tutorials.
This has improved somemwhat since V10 and Alpha has produced a good number of helpful items.

However sometimes they are hard for the less experienced to follow.
They sometime assume a higher level of starting knowledge than exists.
The speaker often speaks too fast.
The tutorials sometimes break off at the wrong point.
I often struggle to see the start and stop icon on my 1024 high screen. Its OK on a 1200 high pixel screen.

Maybe its an opportunity for a capable and interested party to make quality tutorial videos available at a reasonable price. Should be an expanding market.
Just a thought for you while your in your shed. I look forward to seeing your invoice creation method very much.
                            Cheers
                            John
