Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Script stopped working - gives no records in query error.

I have an ActionScript that displays a Dialog Box, populated with the names of Companies. The user selects the company they want to view more information about, and the Company's ID Number is stored in a variable which is used in the filter to retrieve that Company's Information Form.

The script has worked flawlessly for years.

All of a sudden today, it gives me a "No Records in Query" error.

I've re-created the dialog box using ActionScripting, and I still get the "No Records in Query" error.

If I go to the default browse for the table and use the Query Genie it finds companies by the company number.

All of the company records are in the company table. I have rebuilt the indexes and run the index checker and no problems are found.

When I copy and paste the script into the XBasic script editor and run it, it gives an error that says "parentform.mode_get() argument is incorrect data type"

The tables/scripts were created in A5 V8. I have been using A5 V10 for a couple of weeks and just got the error today.

Any ideas on what might be wrong or advice on how to troubleshoot and repair greatly appreciated!

Get the newest build. The previous build has problems and gives this error.
I got this and after installing the newest build still had to restore from a backup but others have said that they got it working again by just installing the new build.

Just downloaded and installed it, didn't change things for me.

Did you restore from a backup? There is a reply regarding this elsewhere on a way to fix this if you don't have a backup but for me that was easiest.

It's backed up on Carbonite, but by the time I get back to the office tomorrow it will be overwritten by today's :(

I'll look for the thread you mentioned, and appreciate you giving me the info!

Thanks a million, Russ. The thread you mentioned (http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=87393) had the solution I needed.

I had added a field to a child form and there was a filter in place which was saved as part of the form, so thus the "no records in query" error!

Such a relief to have that fixed!

Re: Script stopped working - gives no records in query error.

                Hello All,

I had what seems to be the same problem. What I discovered was that if I opened a form using a filter expression...when the form closed, the filter expression remained.

Subsequently opening the form in design mode would reveal the filter even though the form was not designed with a filter expression. The filter was only applied when opening the form from another script.

                The problem was intermittent.

Inserting the following code in the event that was opening the form cleared the problem for me.

                Code:
                dim ptr as P
                ptr = form.load("YOUR_FORM_NAME_HERE")
                ptr.BaseQueryRun("", "")
Haven't gotten around to installing the latest build yet, so I can't comment as to whether it will eliminate the problem.

                  Hey Louis!

Thanks for the input on the problem I was having!

How's everything going? It's been a long time since we've been in touch, but I use the things you taught me about A5 all those years ago every single day!
