Hello,
I'm doing IT support for a company with one user running A4V3 with a database of about 1000 records. Things were fine for her until we got her a new computer. She's now using Windows 7, with XP Mode to support her legacy apps. For those unfamiliar with XP Mode, it's a virtual machine, a la Virtual PC. Printers are shared from the host machine as they would be in a Terminal Server session. You can't reference a port like LPT1, unless I'm missing something.
I know this software is dangerously out of date- I've read of corruption when running this version on XP. I'd like them to upgrade to V8, both for stability and to resolve their printing issues.
I'm not familiar with Alpha4 beyond the very basics, and I don't plan on getting to know it- it's not something I want to bring under my umbrella at this time (and the person who set this up originally is now gone). As their IT consultant, I need to make sure that their IT resources are used properly and advise them when it's time for upgrades, especially for Line-Of-Business apps.
So, I'm looking for someone in the NYC area who can advise my client on the proper procedure for upgrading Alpha4, maintaining the application, and configuring printing. If you're not local, perhaps we can work together remotely.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. If you think you're right for the job, PM me for my phone number or email address.
