Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Where'd my icons go??

I got my app running on a vps with the app server but the built in icons on the bottom of the detail window don't show. The bubble help is there but the bar is blank. Any idea where they might be?

I've tried everything I can find on the forum and this problem won't go away. I need to deliver this app soon or I'll be in hot water. Also I've been considering to report it as a bug but my bug reporter in a5 just throws up a screen and doesn't give me a shot at reporting the bug. I'm using the latest version of developer and app server. I've publiched this everyway from Sunday and it doesn't change. If implemented security and that didn't help. I'm going to become paranoid if I'm the only one this is happening to.

        This sounds like your problem:

On a new security setup, the .a5image extension is allowed by default. However, if the security was initially configured on an early build of V9 (before build 1465 May 6, 2008) or on V8, the option to allow .a5image files was not available. The extension is now listed in the "File types allowed" list in the page permissions dialog, but not may not be selected as the security was set up before it was an option.

Open the Web Security menu, select "Page Security", click "File Types Always Allowed", right click on "*.a5image" and select "Always Allowed". Then close the dialog and republish the security or any page or component.

Thanks Selwyn, problem is that I started this application on 10.5. I'm guessing that those images don't exist in the named directory in the HTML since I can't find them anywhere. Any other ideas? This has been the case since I got the VPS and the problem has survived the last update which I did a couple of days ago on both the developer and the server.

all images with the .a5image extension are virtual images. they do not exist as physical files. they are built into a5 and when the server sees a request for a a virtual image, it pulls the image out of the a5 executable and serves it up.

i don't know why your virtual images are not showing up if you have your permission for .a5image correctly set up.

one question: if you turn off security on your app server, do images appear?

Your configuration appears correct. There are a couple remote possibilities. First, republish the web security setting files (not the data files). Then, try clearing the local browser cache. This will make a new request for the images when a page is requested. If you are using IE 8, try a different browser like Chrome.

Thanks Selwyn, I can't find a way to turn security off on the app server.

Thanks Jerry, I tried republishing security settings and no change.

The images are functional and the bubble help works fine but the image doesn't appear.

to turn off security, you need to remote desktop to the machine that has the server. right click on the icon in the system tray. that will allow you to bring up the server control panel. from there you can turn off security.

I did that and I checked all the tabs and I couldn't find anything that looked like security. I'll look again.

if you right click on the icon in the system tray you will see a menu 'configure server'

this will bring up the app server control panel.

on the 'general' tab, you will see 'enable security framework'

I found it. It's on and the server restarted. I republished all the security files. No change. I can give you acess to the vps or zip my app to you if that would help.

Let's press pause on this for a while - Re the VPS this is on - have found the files are being ftp'd to the VPS where the WAS only is installed - I have suggested (off line) that alpha5 be installed on the server with the database and re published on the VPS.

Selwyn, I turned on the security and restarted the server and there was no change. No icons yet. In addition I republished all the security files.
