Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Change Language, Refresh Grid = error

I have a grid set up to handle English or Spanish in the Language Definitions. I can prove my setup is working correctly by specifying e.tmpl.activeLanguage = "Spanish", for instance, in the OnGridInitialize event. The default language is English.

So, next step is to put buttons on the grid to select the language. For a simple start, I put a button that makes an AJAX callback to a very simple function with one line:

    e.tmpl.activeLanguage = "Spanish"

I can prove this is working and correctly setting the property.

But, I'm stumped about how to refresh the grid after the callback. A {grid.Object}.refresh() throws an error in Firebug (reproducing it here looks pretty meaningless). Nothing changes on the grid - just sits there.

So, how can I programatically, on the fly, set a language, and refresh the grid to show the language?

Re: Change Language, Refresh Grid = error

I had to choose a complete different approach because there is no way yet to translate menu system and login component. So i have to create for each language an own menu and login page + component.

Of course with all containing the same grids where localization works like it should.

To switch from one language to another i use an intermediate a5w page and or perfom redirect after login (to choose the appropriate menu):

    if 1=1
    select
    case session.__protected__activeLanguage="default"
    response.redirect("4tas_myinfo.a5w")
    case session.__protected__activeLanguage="english"
    response.redirect("4tas_myinfo_english.a5w")
    case session.__protected__activeLanguage="german"
    response.redirect("4tas_myinfo_german.a5w")
    end select

    else

    end if

This works good. But i would like te redirect to the page The user left from when switching the language. In that case i don't need the intermediate page. Any idea how?

Check out the request variables. I haven't done this, but I think Request.Referer is what you want.

You would store the value of Request.Referer in addition to the code you show here.

      session.Redirect_page = request.referer

Then, at the end of your language-setting page, do something like:

      response.redirect(session.Redirect_page)

Please note this code is completely untested and untried - I'm just trying to give you my idea of a way to do this.

      Edit: Another thought:

You might also do something like this:

      select
      case session.__protected__activeLanguage="default"
      a5w_include("4tas_myinfo.a5w")
      . . .
      end select
      response.redirect(response.referer)

Dunno if it would work, but might be cleaner.

Re: Change Language, Refresh Grid = error

        you an try this:

        <a href="javascript:location.reload(true)">Refresh this page</a>

this will refresh the entire page (if you use a tabbed ui it will only reload the page where this code is placed, not entire the tabbed ui)
Note: this is HTML and JavaScript you could get rid of the HTML part if needed (location.reload(true))
        Cheers

          Thanks Steve,

this is would be good if i got from request.referer only the page and not the full url.

For example: Request.referer gives me http://localhost:88/cptdata/4vastgoed_myinfo.a5w

To keep the application portable for different customers i can only use this solution if i can either strip everything from the last / backwards or have request variable that also gives me the part of the url that precedes 4vastgoed_myinfo.a5w
