Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Will Pay $$ For Answer!!!!

I have Alpha 5 V10 and used it to create a web project. I connected to an MS SQL database and I put that data into an Alpha 5 standard grid (the one called "Grid with updateable Detail View (SQL)"). That all works great.

All I would like to do is have the Alpha 5 "HTML MEMO" field in the grid. I have been asking for over a month and no one seems to know exactly how to do this.

The first person to provide me with an answer that alows me to solve my problem gets $100 transferred into their PayPal account.

There is no "html memo" field type in mysql, so forget about that term. What do you want to accomplish? I'd give you the full answer but don't want to cut off someone else who want to earn the offered fee.

You change the control type to TextArea, the Display format to HTML Memo and the Text Area Properties to HTML Editor. (See attached image)

The longtext field type works in mysql and the ntext type should work in MS SQL

        Kind regards

glenschild--that looks very close to what I am looking for, but the HTML MEMO popup field doesn't have a "browse" button in it (to choose the file to link to)--shouldn't it?

THat is a whole different question, you can only directly enter into such a field (or cut and paste)

            Kind regards

I saw a video from Alpha 5 where they are demonstrating their "HTML MEMO" field and it had a hyperlink button:

Just checked that video and apart from the fact that it is a desktop demo it does not show how the html code was actually entered into the field but it does confirm that you can put any html code into such a field. You still have to either manually enter or maybe use a third party editor to create the code and then cut and paste. The editor itself can help create the links.

So the answer is that Alpha 5 version 10 does not have a hyperlink button as part of the "HTML MEMO" control as shown in the video?

Ok cool--that would be what I have been looking for to use in a web project grid that uses a SQL database. No one seems to be able to tell me how I get that HTML MEMO hyperlink button.

Just click in the field and it will appear in the html editor! You can test this with Live or Working preview

Re: Will Pay $$ For Answer!!!!

I think there are two things Alpha 5 calls "HTML MEMO" and that is what is confusing this issue. If I were to go to the control panel and click on "New Table (Design Mode)" and then type "test" as the field name and "HTML MEMO" as the field type and save it, you will see a memo field with the pencil icon and when you click on that it has the hyperlink button. But my web project uses my linked MS SQL table and I do not think it is possible to link two databases to the same grid (if someone knows how that would be great).

The second "HTML MEMO" control is the one you mentioned--but it does not have a hyperlink button (if someone knows how to get this it would be great).

It is unfortunate that Alpha 5 would call two controls the same name, but I believe that is where the confusion is coming from and why so many people think it is easy to do. It IS easy to do if you use an Alpha 5 DB, but I am using an MS SQL DB and I am looking for the same functionality.

If this requires special programming and additional time, I am more than willing to pay someone who is capable of getting it done.
