Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I could post an image that shows that there is such a link. What version are you using?

They are two different things. One is a dbf field type and the other a property for a control in a grid component. What is the field type you are using in the MS SQL table?

If I were to go to the control panel and click on "New Table (Design Mode)" and then type "test" as the field name and "HTML MEMO" as the field type and save it, you will see a memo field with the pencil icon and when you click on that it has the hyperlink button. But my web project uses my linked MS SQL table and I do not think it is possible to link two databases to the same grid (if someone knows how that would be great).

The second "HTML MEMO" control is the one you mentioned--but it does not have a hyperlink button (if someone knows how to get this it would be great).

It is unfortunate that Alpha 5 would call two controls the same name, but I believe that is where the confusion is coming from and why so many people think it is easy to do. It IS easy to do if you use an Alpha 5 DB, but I am using an MS SQL DB and I am looking for the same functionality.

If this requires special programming and additional time, I am more than willing to pay someone who is capable of getting it done.

Re: Will Pay $$ For Answer!!!!

field type nvarchar(max) works on both sides other field types are limited to length. Large fields you have a better response using SQLSERVER TEXT engine put that in your SQL SCOPE if needed [ pending on document size or/and field type ] you need to test this.

I use this in a bible conversion program > 250.000 records so field type nvarchar(max) in the grid use text-area display format html-memo

          HTML editor is pop-up

          Hope this helps

Assuming I have the SQL type set correctly, how do I put a "hyperlink" browse button in a grid that is populated from an MS SQL database (something like what is shown in the video link a few posts up)?

Yes--exactly that. But what I get is what you see in post #14--no hyperlink button.

                        Alpha 5 Version 10
                        Developer Edition
                        Version 10, Build 2814

I have exactly what you show on your screen shot and I do not have the last three symbols on the bottom right. I have:

                        Control Type: TextArea
                        Display Format: <HTML Memo>
                        HTML Editor is checked
Width, Height, and font are exactly the same as in post #4.
