Hello everyone,
Has anyone had any problems connecting to SQL Server with WAS 10.5 on a Windows Server 2008 machine? (Either 32-bit or 64-bit, and SQL Server 2008 is running on the same machine as the WAS.)
I'm getting the following error message returned from the connection object:
"The SQL API you requested is not installed"
(And that error also appears instead of a grid.)
I tried the exact same installation on SQL Server 2003, both 32-bit and 64-bit, and it works fine, as well as on 64-bit Windows 7. But I have two separate machines, different applications, both Windows Server 2008 connecting to SQL Server, and both machines get the same error message. I've tried both the SQL Server 2008 Express, as well as the "Web" version of SQL Server, and same thing happens.
But now here's the strange thing -- if I install the developer IDE on the Win2008 machine, and shut down the WAS and instead run the IDE's built-in web server, and connect to the same web application, it works. The error message is gone.
And one more detail: It doesn't seem to matter if I'm trying to connect to a database on the same machine as the WAS, or a database on a different machine remotely through the connection string. Same error happens, which tells me it's a problem with the client connectivity.
I haven't yet tried a different database, but I'll probably install mysql and see if the same thing happens.
Has anyone else experienced this (and hopefully found a solution)?
Thanks,
Jeff Cogswell
