Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Unable to open Report - MySQL

    I created a report from a MySQL View which opens OK, via Control Panel, Reports.
    I created a Button via Dialog Builder using the print genie and in Live Preview a click on the button opens the report correctly.

    However when I place the button on a a5w page and try to open the report with the button I get an error,

    Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
    Amyuni Low Level Print:
    Layout name: MA_Status_Report_S@D:\A5Webroot_V10\padlis\padlis.alb
    Layout type: report
    SQLReporting 6 - DataSource record for Layout not found.

    The After Validate Code is:
    Dim filename as c
    dim libfolder as c
    libfolder = a5_removetrailingbackslash(Request.ApplicationRoot) + chr(92)
    reportname = "XX_Status_Report_S@" + libfolder + "padlis.alb"
    filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.pdf"
    filename = report.saveas(reportname,"pdf","","",filename,.f.)
    if file.exists(filename)
    currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
    end if
    Can anyone see where I may be going wrong please.
    Many thanks
    John

    Re: Unable to open Report - MySQL

    In Reports I discovered the Print Genie. This creates an error if used with a report from a mysql database:
    "Invalid field name"

      Try checking the 'Publish Database Library (contains SQL Report Definitions) when you publish to your site.

      This was my problem, when I saw the "SQLReporting 6 - DataSource record for Layout not found." error.

      Thanks,

        I think I will have to write that out 500 times.

        I was told the other day to do this!

        Thanks so much for the reminder Robert. It worked!

          Re: Unable to open Report - MySQL

          Sure - glad I could help.. I have a question for you..

          Does your report get displayed after you run it?

          Code:
          currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
          I originally had:

          Code:
          Response.Redirect = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")

          Neither of them is working for me. I'm trying to do something similar. I can see my report being created, but it's not being displayed.

          Thanks,

          Robert

            Yes the report is displayed correctly.

            Just to confirm this is a web app?

            I am using a Dialog to create the Report Button.
            Where is the code
            Response.Redirect = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3")
            located

              Re: Unable to open Report - MySQL

              Yep - web app.

              My code is in the AfterInsertRecord.

              I had used the example from the wiki, it uses the

              Response.Redirect instead of your code currentform.RedirectTarget

              What build of Alpha do you have?

              Thanks,

                Robert
                I have 10.5 and I followed the instructions given by Steve Workings Tutorial Print a PDF Report to the Browser to create a button which opens the Report

                This tutorial came with the A5 V9 as long as I remember to Publish Database Library.
                Does this help?

                  Re: Unable to open Report - MySQL

                  Nope- it doesn't help.

                  My steps are:

                  1) User enters info for a new record, and clicks SUBMIT.
                  2) On the AfterInsertRecord Event, I add an additional record to the database.
                  3) I then run a report that produces a receipt for this new record. This works the report is generated.

                  However, I can't get the receipt.pdf file to popup.

                  What I'd really like to do is be able to run some xbasic code that would pop up a new window with the receipt.pdf file separate from my main browser window.

                  I'll figure it out eventually..

                  Thanks,

                    Re: Unable to open Report - MySQL

                    To discover the Xbasic code you need, build a new Dialog component.

                    Go to the Dialog's AfterValidate event, and select Insert / Genies / Print Report.

                    This will help you build the Xbasic you need that you can put other places.

                      Re: Unable to open Report - MySQL

                      I tried using the genie and updating the code to match.

                      I really have no problem creating the report - I can see that it is created, and if I open it, it's correct. I just can't get it to display after it's created.

                      In my AfterInsert Record for the grid, it doesn't to the redirect to the report, whether I use the currentform.RedirectTarget, or the Response.Redirect call. I simply get the grid back, and a msg '1 record inserted'

                      Thanks,

                      Robert
