Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Security Feature: login screen.

    Hi,
I'm very new to A5 and probably the answer is very simple; however, I want to use a pre-defined list of users in my MySQL tbl (tblUsers) and use the user name and password fields in that table to check against login form.

how do i do it..? (make the datasource my MySQL table for the login page).

I noticed that there are tables created (alfpha 5 dbf) for users--in the webcontrol panel, although i dont see any option, yet, to specify my own data source.

If I'm bound to A5's self created tables, what solutions can i use to get around this.

    thanks

There is likely more direct answers to your question, but you may get some ideas from this blog entry from a few days ago:

        Re: Security Feature: login screen.

I'm trying to follow the instructions in the document and i've created all my fields in the table, which are on MySQL Server.
it seems that the (replace(newid(),'-','')) gives an error --mainly that the replace command is not valid.

there is a significant amount of data in my users table and i'm really not sure how to go about updating the table with the new GUID. I noted that the UUID() is the function that MySQL uses, but it seems very vague on how to strip the '-' out of the GUID field. I ran an 'update' query on the table with the new value of UUID and every record go the exact same value, so i had to erase the field and then add it back again. Now i cant get the field to update with unique values, with the -'s.

so my questions are: how do i update the MySQL table so that every record that is currently in there gets a unique UUID() in the GUID field with the -'s stripped out

        and

what string would i set as the default value to to include a unique UUID without an -'s ?

I've played around with this for over 4 hours now and getting error after error.. the mysql manual (online) doesnt seem to help much, nor does there seem to be much help on google!

anyone have any similar issue? or a fix for this?

(i thought about running a query through access (using VBA) to build the string--but i'm not sure on the contstruct, anyone know the syntax for VBA to build the GUID?).

          another problem:
still in following the instructions above:
i get to step 6 and when i type the name of the table "websecurity_users.dbf" or "websecurity_users.dbf" nothing happens, as in it doesnt list the link table in in the tables/sets, nor does it put any files on windows explorer. (this only seems to be the case for the 'websecurity_users' . typing any of the other pages (groups, members, etc...) gives me a dialog confirming the creation of the active link and asking if i want to view the data along with the files in explorer.

any ideas? am i missing something? (I think not as i've been through the process about 8 times now!).

            fixed!
issue one: resolved! i reinstalled A5 and re tried the excercise. now it works.

issue two: figured out the solution: the the current list of users in my table need another table that contains their security information, and links to their user table. which i'll create a page to allow users to create a login, enter their account number and the ulink field will update with the row id from the customer table.

(it took me ages to figure out what i needed to do--many sleepless hours!)

luckily no one wasted their time posting to my 'pseudo-problem!'

The function you want to create a GUID value is

              strtran(api_uuidcreate(),"-","")
