Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Style Name not being published

This is happening on a real project I'm working on that I spent all yesterday tring to figure out with no luck so as a test today I created a simple database, one A5W page and one grid. The grid uses the Arizona style and has a search area. If I publish it locally it all works fine, the style appears as Arizona and I can search. Once I publish to VPN the style is no longer there, it's just a plain white background and if I try to search for something it blanks out the search area and keeps all the original records.

I did publish everything so I'm stumped.

anyone had this problem and how do I fix it?

    Thanks

I had a similar problem. I just had to apply the latest patch to the A5 Web Application Aerver on the VPN network and then everything started working again.

May not be your solution, but worth a try.

      Hi Dan,

I'm using 10.5 3040 3571, as far as I know that is the latest version. When I go to http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/A...chdownload.asp I get a timeout. Is that the version you're using?

There is another thread running about this with icons, are you using ftp get the files to the vps or are you working on the vps, either way I don't know why it happens, you may need to manually copy the css folder in you project folder to the folder in the webroot on the VPS to get it going.

          Hi Pete,

Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

Hi John, yep that is the latest version. Just make sure that is the WAS and not you copy of A5v10.

Sounds like Pete may have another solution as well.

I'm going to try Pete's idea and manually copy everything over today. I'll post back and let you know one way or the other how it goes.

Re: Style Name not being published

I've no clue if doing a manual copy worked or not, it appeared that it didn't because everything remained the same (which included no graphics showing up). However, I switched to Chrome and everything showed up. I now have a different problem even though it is in the correct place and I am connected to the server. I'll search for a solution to this one now.

Error opening Grid table/view: Database API specific error

Your database has returned the following error code and description to Alpha Five.
Consult your database documentation for further information.

-1023 - '[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

Re: Style Name not being published-More problems

                  Frustration level continues to rise.

I've seen other posts on the board about this connection issue but never really a one true solution.

If I use a named string I get this error:

Error opening Grid table/view: Internal Error - Can't find named connection
'SS3Qry' - while converting named connection to connection string

I have deleted the .a5i and republished everything. If I change the connection to "Specify connection string", I then get this delightful message:

Error opening Grid table/view: Database API specific error

Your database has returned the following error code and description to Alpha Five.
Consult your database documentation for further information.

                  SQL State is: IM006
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed
                  SQL State is: IM006'

I've deleted the a5i file and republished everything at least 7-8 times Tried different browers. Checked to make sure the the data (MDB) file is where it is supposed to be. Republished everything again including the data. Still I'm nowhere.

What the heck am I supposed to do? I'm telling a client A5 is the way to go and I can't even get this one grid to work! I'm about to give up and tell them to look elsewhere.

If anyone know how to fix this can youplease put me out of my misery. If anyone at Alpha is reading this, can you please help.

(thinking of going back to bed - and it's only 10:20am)

Can I ask a stupid question - are you developing on the VPS or on a local machine?

So you have a full development copy of Alpha on the VPS and you have the WAS running as well - that right?

I have the developer edition and the WAS on my local PC and on the VPS it's the WAS only. No developer edition on the VPS. All licensed etc. I've rebooted the VPS and my local PC but the results are the same.
