Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Active Directory Integration?

Has anyone successfully integrated Security with Active Directory? For an "Internal" application (Intranet), it makes sense to utilize the security framework already manager by Server / Active Directory.

    Steven,

This question is not new, it's asked serveral times before.
There is no AD support, question is will it ever come.
Until then we have to wait, some time ago somebody mentioned write it your self.
Well I just need one security framework not two.

Exactly my point. Microsoft spends who knows how many Millions a year of AD development. WAS Server is a Windows only product, so why not utilize Microsoft's development resources and $$$?

Has anyone wrote their own AD integration?

Several customers and ISVs have done their own AD integration. We have two kinds of AD integration in our own development pipeline; stay tuned.

This is for a Intranet Web app connected to SQL 2008R2 backend.

I am looking for integration to Active directory. I am well versed in MS SQL 2008R2 but new to Alpha Five v10.5. I want the Alpha five Web app to recognize the "Windows login User" and use this name to login. All users must login via a Windows authentication in order to gain access to the intranet.

When I try the getusername() command I get the Windows user of the application server and not the Web clients windows machine.

thank you very much for your time,
              Peter

I'm don't understand how I get the ?api_getusername() to the Alpha Login Component. Is that something I can do now with Alpha's current security structure or do I have to wait for the new Active Directory feature?

From my understanding this was told to a few of us that it would be available around Sept/Oct 2010....

So the question Martin is what is the real date?
                      THanks

That only works on the desktop not on the Webapps.
                        Best option is wait.

                          Re: Active Directory Integration?

Personally I am anxiously waiting for the AD feature pack, which is supposed to be in the works. Don't know delivery date. One could build their own with a utility that returned authorization from AD and then auto-logged in to the Alpha application using encrypted parameters on a URL to the site and used the function a5ws_login_user(). But that's not the same thing as true AD control.

But that is really unsafe unless you get creative with the auto-login process. the a5ws_login_user() function takes username and password as parameters, meaning you would be passing that information in the URL to auto-login. If I did that I would want to encrypt the parameters AND include some trick that made the login only work for a given period of time after AD returned the authentication.
