Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    setting session variables from grid fields

    Im trying to set session variables from information in a grid field. At the moment I am using OnExistingRowRender to
    Get the data from the existing row :
    e.rv.session.emp_id=e.rowData.data("EmplId")
    And then placing it in the session so its available to other grids and other A5W pages. These become my global variables for the system. At the moment I cannot access these
    values on other a5w pages even though its placed in the session. Would you know why it isnt accessible? I've tried hardcoding these values on the entry page, which works fine making these session variables available throughout the system. But I need to assign these values from the dynamically generated grid...

    Thanks

    Patrick

    Actually it does work.

    Of course, it will only get the last row data if you do it like that.

      See the attached example...

      Run the grid in LIVE preview and press the test button.

        Cool I tested it out.. My problem was with actually access a piece of data from a specific row, not just the current, which I guess defaults to the last? I ended up making number of rows=1 in xbasic and then accessing that current value. Thanks for the demo it was very helpful...

          The reason you get the last value is because OnExistingRowRender fires for each row in the grid, so naturally each time the same variable is assigned the value of each row until it ends up w. just the last one.

            Peter!

            I am stumped and can't seem to find the answer.

            I have a button on a grid row and I need to access the value of one of the fields in the grid row. I've tried e.datsubmitted and a host of other values. I looked in the Wiki, but can't seem to find it there either and I've looked all over the forum. Is there a simple e. variable?

            Thanks,

            Charlie

              Charles,

              How about e._currentRowDataNew.lastname, if your field is lastname.

                Peter I am trying to do a similar thing. I am trying to load a field into a session variable. I have done this before using the following technique in a different A5 app.

                e.rv.session.varemail = e.rv.v.r1.Email
                The above code worked fine.
                That same code does not work in this app.

                I tried your code and got the following result.

                The field I am trying to load a value from is Email
                In an OnPageRedirect event here is my code

                dim session.svaremail as c

                e.rv.session.svaremail = e._currentRowDataNew.Email

                Error running Grid: Error executing OnPageRedirect event handler: command: e.rv.session.svaremail = e._currentRowDataNew.Email Property not found e._currentRowDataNew subelement not found.

                Any thoughts

                Thanks

                  Yes. I encountered the same error as well. Where should I put the e._currentRowDataNew.lastname?
