Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Marios - I encountered the same problem on my Win 7 machine. I found it best to click on the patch link and select Open. After waiting a bit, a list of the files in the patch will display. Then I select them all and copy. Then I go to the Alpha program files folder and paste them. All the protection in Win 7 seems to prevent anyone from placing or extracting from a zip file into a program files folder. But you can paste into those folders.

It is one of those annoying Windows 7 things! I have a sub folder under downloads called A5V10 and I always unzip to that folder and then move all to the program folder!

if you want your product to really take off, you guys need far better support available to the users that buy your products and help you by developing with it.
this message board is good, but there is no confidence that we can call the office and get qualified support.

Re: New Build 3209_3580 : ALL grids same fatal error

I think the Alpha web app product has great potential, but I bet there would be far more customers if the documentation and help was greatly improved and organized. This would help make a good impression on prospects who are evaluating. I'm stubborn and keep fighting through all of it until I take a baby step forward, but I bet a lot of people would give up.

I've now kidded to a few friends... "I keep feeling like Alpha ought to pay me for the fixes I've found and submitted during my evaluation period, rather than me paying them." BUT, being a developer myself, I also have some understanding about this type of thing, so we're all in it together, and, I for one, am very happy that Selwyn does listen and respond to issues right away. I think they are trying their best to get there... So, I'm now going to go pay my money and see what happens on this new adventure! :)

So something went wrong ?, if your a good developer you first test your patches on your dev machine in a seperate folder away from your production dev stuff. Always have valid backups of your apps and Alpha Software materials.

              1. a deploy error happens 1 to 100
              2. i make a misstake Selwyn helps 99 out of 100

              What is your choice ?

              thank you

I have to say that contacting Selwyn, even with sometimes real stupid questions, he ALWAYS answer back in a fast manner.

One day I hope to meet these people that have designed a product that even a person like me can develop a product that is being used at the big M.

So I am a very happy and satisfied customer.

Its not hard words.... I like the product and use it. This is constructive! I know hard work is a thankless job, but availability of outstanding customer service is a proven formula for success.

By the way, as an experienced developer, we do backup and test on different boxes.

                  waiting for the production fix.

Yeah. Apparently some department over at Microsoft is using the Alpha WAS, which is a pretty big complement. I'd love to know more about this. I suppose if Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer find out, they'll blow their respective stacks!

I can just see it now:

                            MS: Hello, customer service.

Customer: Why doesn't this !@#$%^&*! product work???!!!!

MS: Sir, Bill Gates no longer works here. He and Melinda are giving all their money away these days. We can't be responsible for his programming.

Customer: What the !@#$%^&*! ???!!!! I just want this damn product to work!

MS: Sir, why don't you try Alpha Software ver 10.5. That's what we all use here.

Customer: What the !@#$%^&*! ???!!!! I thought this is Microsoft!!!

MS: As Bill Gates famously said: "there isn't much in the way of power".

                            Customer: !@#$%^&*! ???!!!!

MS: Thank you. And you have a nice day too, sir.

                            ;)
