Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Current Issues Since Feature Pack Installed!!!!!

I thought id try and be helpful and put all the problems in one big post.

    Part 1.

    Posted by 'cjsingh'

I bought the feature pack File Image Upload Combo as I had been waiting for it for months. The videos seemed exciting and seem to work smoothly. But I have issues !!

The video shows mainly how to upload images that have image references and not embedded images. Does anyone know of the video that shows how to embed images.

I am not able to embed images to a blob field. I get two errors:

    1. If I upload image from a grid, I get the error that I do not have the permissions to upload (Image field is not updateable, or you do not have permission to update this field.). The grid I am using is in an application that does not have security enabled.

I tried the same in security enabled app but the error is the same - I do not have permissions. But I actually have.

    2. If I upload image from a detail view, the window to select the file, it shows the normal browser error : This program cannot display the webpage.

The release notes page of A5 says there is a bug and to download a zip file and copy the files to the install folder. I did this but this did not help.

Please note: the image upload with reference link works fine. But I want to embed images.

    Can somebody help please.
    Part 2

We had the exact same problem.

What we did was go to web secuirty, page security , file types always allowed. then add .a5w pages to that.

This then allowed the pages through.

We also downloaded the newest patch as told by Selwyn to do so. instructions are:

This file contains a pre-release of the updates to the aex file that will be in the next update.
Exit from Alpha Five and unzip this file into your A5V10 program folder.
You must also unzip it into the A5V10 Server folder if you are running the stand-alone App Server.
    http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a...te/aex_v10.zip

This file contains an update to the exe and dll files. Exit Alpha Five and unzip into your program folder.
You must also unzip it into the A5V10 Server folder if you are running the stand-alone App Server.
You can also unzip these files into your A5V10 Runtime folder.
    http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a...dllexe_v10.zip
Please be aware we came across. the following problems.
you cannot extract directly into the program files because it will come up with an error asking for a password on certain files. What we did to get round this was extract into a seperate folder and then copy and paste the files as told to the relevant a5v10, a5v10 Application server and A5v10 Runtimes folders.

But having done this we move to part 3.

    Part 3

It came up with another problem. to do with a login redirection to tabbedUI.

We can get onto the login page fine and can enter our login details and click login.

But when we do this it now just sits on the login.a5w and doesnt redirect to the TabbedUI_TabbedUI.a5w page. And when i mean failing i mean sits on a blank white screen.

But when we change the html from login.a5w to the tabbedUI.a5w it then allows us to see the tabbedUI. But not for all of our alpha 5 databases.

This we are waiting on a fix for and Selwyn has been notified.

    Part 4

We now have a problem with the download file feature pack.

We have an embedded file upload which has the file type and description. This works fine, but when we try the download set to be embedded in a table it comes up with the following error on the client side.

    XHTTPRequest Error:

    403 Forbidden

Your security credentials do not allow access to this resource.
Alpha 5 team please help us all. Your killing us here!!!

    Many thanx

You have to activate the SSL on the WAS with a valid certificate.
If your apps is medical read the HIPPA/Hitech complicance rules.

          Hi All
When uploading / editing the image in the memo field in a grid as described in the 2 videos, it does not save the image(it goes through the motions of displaying the dialog box and I save it) but the image does not get saved.
I am publishing it to local webroot and do not have security enabled yet.

          Any suggestions would be appreciated.
