Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Show/Hide if data.rowNumber > 0

    This should be simple. Attached screenshot shows my attempted use of a show/hide expression, along with the builder and the help dialog.

    data.rowNumber > 0

    But, it has no effect. Anyone know why?

            Could you elaborate on "has no effect"? Do you not see a result similar to attached? (3rd column - the Logical field - is set for data.rowNumber > 0)

              Thanks Jon.

              Picture of mine attached. It's not affecting the hyperlink label, which is showing as the questionmark icon. Maybe the problem is control-type specific and doesn't play well with this -- I know I've used and taught this before and it works.

                Steve,

                Have tried to replicate but it seems to work for me on dbf and sql grids but I noticed there was one difference on the detail in your original screenshot compared to my own example (see attached). Under Client Side Properties you have just the Show/Hide Expression detail.

                Are you able to show your Display Settings and Link Properties?

                  Steve,

                  Need to engage brain.....

                  Have tried again with hyperlink setting rather than a field changed to a link.

                  Still seems to work for me.

                    Hmm, found something out.

                    Dave - your last example is nearly exactly the same as mine.

                    But, I have a hyperlink coded into the definition:

                    Code:
                    <a href="PlayHelp.a5w?_id={id}" "target=_blank">
                    <img src="Images/vidhelp.jpg" style="width:px;height:px">
                    </a>
                    But, if I take the hyperlink out, the control is indeed hidden:

                    Code:
                    <img src="Images/vidhelp.jpg" style="width:px;height:px">
                    Now I need to find a solution...

                      Could you create an image field with an OnClick event rather than a hyperlink control? Not sure about the show/hide, etc, but an idea...

                        Steve,

                        Another possiblity is to use the javascript Onclick event. The attached opens up the page in a new browser window but needs more work / experimentation to get the ID reference included and to see if will work.

                        ID can be obtained using:

                        Code:
                        var MyID = {grid.object}.getValue('G','ID',{grid.rowNumber});
                        How are you using the ID ref in the Play Help page?

                          Using Action Javascript is easier than that. Assuming (and admittedly I'm making some assumptions here) you have the image showing up on all applicable lines of the grid, you just have to go to Action Javascript and select the "Open a webpage..." (I don't have the actual program in front of me right now), enter the url and a variable of ID = {ID}. I'll also note that I'm not actually sure how to open in a completely new window, though...

                            Thanks all. I went with an image, added in some Onclick javascript to pop a modal window. The Show/Hide expression works just fine with this.

                            Been dealing with court stuff the last few days trying to save a 2 year old so my thinking hasn't been as clear and inventive as usual.
