Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    VS6 or V10 patch I see only 1 flavor ?

In the releasenotes I see we now have the choice between VS6 or VS10 compiled patches. I see only links for the VS10 patches.
Can VS10 patches be applied to an older (VS6 compiled version)?
Is there a way to download a full copy VS10 compiled or VS6 compiled? I'm a little confused here... Can someone shed some light on this ? Thx

      Peter,

I know. But in the release notes i see only links to patch files with their name ending on vs10.exe

Where are the patch files with vs6.exe in their name ?

Can vs10.exe patches be applied to an 'old' (vs6 compiled) copy eg build 3040_3571 ?

Where van we download a vs10 compiled full copy ?

Up to now if I wanted a fresh full copy of the most recent build I downloaded a demoversion but I presume the demoversion right now is still a VS6 compiled copy.

I hope someone at alpha can tell something more about this.

        Frank,

        http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/A...easenotes.html.
You can override the new install with VS2010 patches

In the about box you see the compiler version 1600 = Visual Studio 2010 & old build 1200 = V6

          Eric,

I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying that I can apply VS10 compiled patches on a vs6 compiled version like I have right now (build 3040 3571) ? Will that make it a complete vs10 compiled application ? I always wondered what is in the patch files since it seems to be ok to simply apply an old patch to revert a version; does that mean that the patches are the actual application but without all the supporting files ?

          Thx

VS2010 compiler 1600 simply replaces the common patches nothing else is changed. Your grids run fine with this version.
As you can read more in the release notes.
Everything is working perfectly an exta Alpha runs faster.

OK so what you say is that it does not matter if vs10 compiled patches are applied onto a vs6 compiled build. I also presume there is yet no full vs10 compiled build available ? I'll download another democopy to get a full copy that is up to date.

Just downloaded a full copy; it is build 3221 3583 compiled with VS6 but the installer already takes care of installing "dotnet 4 framework extended" (I already had "dotnet 4 framework client profile" via windows update but I don't know what that is supposed to be. Then applied the patch (vs10 compiled) all works. See attached screenshots.

The new complier 1600 as you read in the release notes is faster and stable then old 1200, If I understand Selwyn. In practice as i stated for now there only the benefit of A5 running faster and stable. For the rest we have to wait what the offical plans are [V11].

                  thanks

I'm still confused about this. I want the latest build and the VS10, which I think is possible(?). Last night, through the developer update link I downloaded and installed build 3286_3590 but it's still the VS6 compiler (and didn't give options at the time of download other than main download site or alternate site). I see the link in the release notes for VS10, but it is not an older build than 3286_3590? Do I need to download and install the one in the release notes and then re-install the latest build?

Goto website alphasoftware download the trial and you have it all in one package [ install in the present folder your using] then you have VS2010. Simple to do. To my understanding you don't have re-activate your lic.

                        Eric,

I don't think that is actually true unless Alpha has decided to make the VS10 flavor the official flavor. I downloaded a trial and checked the version on aug 29th and that was vs6.

Well I think and I am 100% sure this is VS2010 build 3272-3589.
Microsoft C compiler 1600 downloaded 2 days ago.
"Alpha has decided to make the VS10 flavor the official flavor" they did so it seems Sorry Frank;)
