Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Checkbox select column

    I am trying to use this feature. As examples
    1) How to filter the grid to show only selected rows or vice versa how to hide selected rows?
    2) How to cycle through the selected records and set a static value in a field in the grid.
    A5 doc is very poor in this regard and the couple of posts that refer to this feature didn't help much.

      Re: Checkbox select column

      Hi Mauricio:
      I spent much time and gray matter on this wiki page. If it was the only feature that's poorly documented I wouldn't be ranting. A couple of examples from Alpha team would save us, the mere mortals, much time and frustration.

        There is a video that shows how to use this feature. I can't remember where I found it. It helped me to use this feature. Hopefully someone knows how to get to the video

          some progress

          put this in your xbasic function declarations

          Code:
          function Test as c (e as p)
              Text = e.checkboxRows.countChecked
              Test = "alert('"+Text+"')"
          end function
          Turn on Quick serach and put this on the quick serach's "Freeform layout" option

          Code:
          {QuickSearch}
          <button onclick="[B]{grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G',1,'Test');[/B]">Test</button>
          A test button will appear aside from the Quick search area

          I think you will figure out the rest
          Cheers

              Re: Checkbox select column

              Further more change the TEST function I just posted to this on the xbasic function declaratios

              Code:
              FUNCTION Test as c (e as p)

                  IF eval_valid("e.checkboxRows.countChecked") = .t.

                      NumChecked = val(e.checkboxRows.countChecked)
                      Text = "Checked: " + NumChecked + ", Keys:"

                      FOR i=1 TO NumChecked
                          KeyValue = "e.checkedRows.key" + i + "[1]"
                          Text = Text +", "+ eval(KeyValue)
                      next

                      Test = "alert('"+Text+"')"

                  ELSE
                      Test = "alert('Error')"
                  END IF

              END FUNCTION
              Now that you have the Keys (ids) yo can do almost anything yo want with those records
              Cheers

                  Re: Checkbox select column

                  I made this code so its easy to adapt to any situation where you need to update the selected records using a SQL backend, just change the variables in red

                  In the Xbasic function declarations put
                  Code:
                  FUNCTION Fn_Update as c (e as p)

                  	IF eval_valid("e.checkboxRows.countChecked") = .t.
                  	IF val(e.checkboxRows.countChecked) > 0
                  		dim AllKeyValues as c
                  		dim NumChecked as n
                  		dim conn as SQL::Connection
                  		dim sql_update as C

                  		NumChecked = val(e.checkboxRows.countChecked)' Total Number of checked rows
                  		[COLOR="Red"]Key_Field =  "Id_Actividad" 'Your key (id) field[/COLOR]

                  		'Get all keys
                  		FOR i=1 TO NumChecked
                  			KeyValue = eval("e.checkedRows.key" + i + "[1]")
                  			AllKeyValues = AllKeyValues + " OR "+Key_Field+ "=" + KeyValue
                  		next
                  		AllKeyValues = substr(AllKeyValues,4)

                  		[COLOR="Red"]SQL_Connection = "::name::AI_SQL"[/COLOR]
                  		[COLOR="Red"]Table_Name = "pr_actividades_tbl"[/COLOR]
                  		[COLOR="Red"]Set_Values = "Activa = 0" 'Fields you want to change[/COLOR] and its values divided by comas
                  		sql_update = "UPDATE "+Table_Name+" SET "+Set_Values+" WHERE "+AllKeyValues

                  		conn.open(SQL_Connection) 'Connection
                  		conn.execute(sql_update)
                  		conn.close()
                  		Fn_Update = "{grid.object}.refresh();A5.msgBox.hide();alert('Records Updated Successfully');"

                  	ELSE
                  		Fn_Update = "A5.msgBox.hide();alert('Error');"
                  	END IF
                  	END IF

                  END FUNCTION
                  In the quick search freeform layout (or any other place of the grid) put:

                  Code:
                  {QuickSearch}&nbsp;
                  <button class="DayButton" onclick="A5.msgBox.show('Loading...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'><img src=\'CSS/A5System/images/wait.gif\' >&nbsp;Please wait.</div>','none',function() {});
                  {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G',1,'Fn_Update');">Update</button>
                  this code includes a wait msg that is displayed until the callback is done, and the grid will be refreshed

                      FUNCTION Test as c (e as p)

                      IF eval_valid("e.checkboxRows.countChecked") = .t.

                      NumChecked = val(e.checkboxRows.countChecked)
                      Text = "Checked: " + NumChecked + ", Keys:"

                      FOR i=1 TO NumChecked
                      KeyValue = "e.checkedRows.key" + i + "[1]"
                      Text = Text +", "+ eval(KeyValue)
                      next

                      Test = "alert('"+Text+"')"

                      ELSE
                      Test = "alert('Error')"
