Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

The word I'm searching for disappears in query

I have a form where the main table is the documents table. Documents have an ID, description, revision date, etc. There's a button on it called "Find Doc By Description". When the button is pushed, it launches a custom query that lets the user put in a word and then searches the documents table for records with that word, or a similar word, in the descritption field.

The button and its query works great, EXCEPT that whatever word is entered in the search, disappears from the description field display. It isn't removed from the field value, and if you click on it, the whole description shows up highlighted, including the searched-for word, but until you click on the description, you see that field with a blank where the search word is supposed to be. If you navigate to other records in the query, same problem.

So I'm trying to figure out if this is some obscure setting I can't find (like when you highlight a searched-for word the font turns white and the background stays white??) or if it's a bug I should report.

I zipped it, then realized you couldn't look at it because some of the tables are active-link SQL tables. So I made a quick test DB to send, but the problem didn't happen there. That led me to try changing the stylesheet on my real db, and that fixed the problem. So it's something with the stylesheet - can't figure out what. I guess I'll just change my stylesheet. Thanks for your offer of help!

This happens so often in that once a sample/example is created the solution will many times present itself....so it is always a good idea to do this when wanting to ask for a solution from the messageboard as even if when creating a sample/example doesn't help you find a solution it will most times really accelerate the ability of others to! (IOW make it as easy as possible for others to help!)

I say this not necessarily just to you Reva, but to all wanting specific help here. :)

Glad you figured it out and made available here your solution.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm frequently working on fairly complex forms and I need to remember to create a simplified version as a way to focus in on the problem, as well as a way to present it to the forum if need be.

I still wish I understood what it was about the other stylesheet that was creating this problem, but I don't have time to play with it randomly, so if anyone has an idea about where I should look, I'd love to hear it.

I appreciate the help & feedback I get here!
