Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Show/Hide Client Side error

I'm trying to implement a very simple Client-Side show/hide expression:

    Code:
    Method = "Period"
I've tried all sorts of variants, but every time get the attached error message when going to any preview in design. When I load it to the web site, I don't get the error, but the show/hide expression doesn't work either. Any thoughts?

    Re: Show/Hide Client Side error

    Steve,

I've been chasing that exact same error for a couple days in a large, complex grid.

The error message might as well say "Something Is Wrong" for all the good it does me! I'm wondering if the "DV" means detail view????

In my case, the result of publishing is I can't navigate in the detail view....the toolbar navigation buttons work once or twice, then stop working...so, it could be an error in one place that affects something else.

Anyway, I'll re-check the show hides, and if I find anything, I'll certainly let you know.

Later after checking: Thanks for the clue where to look. Removed my show/hide and the error went away. Since my app goes live tomorrow, for now, I'll just live without it. Sorry that doens't solve your problem!

Since it is javascript it should be Method = 'Period'

        Re: Show/Hide Client Side error

Frank - single quotes make no difference.

Pat - I just upgraded to the 9/27 patch (VS10) in hopes of a solution, but no joy. I just sent a video off to Selwyn. If I learn anything you'll be the first to know.

Edit: I just realized I've called this a show/hide problem. While it is that too, I've actually been working on an Enable expression. Same result, different controls.

          Re: Show/Hide Client Side error

          Steve,

I'm also on the latest patch. I'm finding this error consistently in all the grids with show/hide, so I'm going through the whole app and taking all them out. I don't expect a patch in time for go live tomorrow. When it does get fixed, I'll put them back in.

Fortunately, show/hide is not a requirement of my app, just makes the interface nicer, so it is not a show stopper.

Do you by any chance have the pre-fetch detail view opiton checked. I saw the very same error in in grids with this option enabled and it went away after removing the pre-fetch. All of my detail views have enable expressions in them.

No, prefetch doesn't seem to affect it. Selwyn can't reproduce it. Gotta be something in what Pat and I are doing....

              More soon I hope...

                Re: Show/Hide Client Side error

                I figured it out.

This is an "Update Only" grid. My table had no records in it. When I added a record, the errors disappeared.
