File Upload Feature - Delete record & file

Has anyone created a button that will read the filename and delete the file on the server and table record?

I have a pretty good user defined upload script now, but, if a user deletes the table record, the actual file uploaded to the webroot folder will be orphaned. That seems like a bad thing over the course of a year.
Selwyns upload videos were great. Just need the cleanup part.

If anyone has code they can share, much appreciated.

You may want to run a maintenance script but that may take some time depending upon the amount of records and associated files.

I would read the file names and look at the table to see if a record exists. If not, delete the filename.

I have the same problem where I store the blob in a table and then have to run a sql query to determine if the header table contains a record linking to the child blob table.

delete from doc_blob where not in (select docid from doc_header)

since you have physical files you will use something like file.find and read the files into an array then search the table for its existence.

Thanks to Mauricio giving me a great function reference on Alphapedia, below is the final code that will go and delete an uploaded file. It assumes you have stored the full name of the file (with path), or that you store your files in the default folder. I use a hidden field to store the full name.

Create an event OnExistingRowRender for your grid.

function OnExistingRowRender as v (e as p)

e.rv.session.RowFileName=e.rowData.data("filename")

end function

Then, build the following function in your xbasic function declarations:

function CleanFile as v (e as p)

dim DeleteFile as C

'Populate variable with session variable file name from grid
DeleteFile = session.RowFileName

'Go remove that file
file.remove(DeleteFile)

end function

In a button, do an ajax callback to the created function CleanFile

Can anyone help me to get this code working? I don't seem to be able to avoid this error: "Error executing Ajax callback function 'CleanFile' Error reported was: command: file.remove() The number of arguments or the type of one or more arguments do not match any existing function."

We managed to get the code working. We are doing fine now.
