Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

default email client not being seen by A5

Default mail client -- Mozilla Thunderbird -- fails to pop-up when attempting to send report via email in A5V10. I've tried with Thunderbird both open and closed. (Thunderbird works just fine otherwise.) I have my preferences set correctly. The report appears to be printed by A5 but then nothing happens. No error messages are triggered.

I have tried this on three machines: Win7 64/bit; Win7 32/bit and on a MAC running Parallels with Win7 installed using A5 Runtime module. The same result on all machines.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

(The built-A5 mailer works except that it does not identify the sender of the message.)

Re: default email client not being seen by A5

This may not help at all but I recently had a problem with XP in which Outlook popped open when Thunderbird was my default email client. Turns out that even though Thunderbird was my default for years and worked properly in every respect, somehow my playing around with Outlook a while back got Outlook stuck as the default in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. This left Thunderbird as my default for everything except when emailing in A5, where Outlook popped open instead. I had to edit the registry to fix it. In your case, maybe the default item in the registry is blank? In XP there are 2 places in the registry that could be a problem, under HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Under each of these go to Software and then Clients to see what the default situation is. In my case the culprit was under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE which had Outlook instead of Thunderbird. The image below is what I had after fixing it. Again, this is not exactly what your problem is but it may give you some ideas for something to look at. The Windows registry is pretty notorious for being something that can easily get messed up. Of course I am just assuming that the registry is pretty much the same in win7.

This isn't a direct solution to your problem but I've had other issues with Thunderbird. I think the major issue was that it wouldn't accept attachments "sent" to it by A5.

See this thread for my solution which may also help solve your problem. (Note also the registry location for defining the default e-mail.)
