Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Set Design Problem using one items table in 2 sets

Our business sells replacement parts to repair electronic equipment. So, I have a set to create an Invoice when parts are sold consisting of the following tables:

    Invoice-header
    Customers1-1 link to invoice_header by customer-id field.
    Items1-many link to invoice_header by invoice_number field.

This set works ok with no problems.

We also do repairs of electronic equipment. To handle a repair, I have another set to keep track of this work consisting of the following tables:

    Repair_header
    Customers1-1 link to repair_header by customer-id field.
Items 1-many link to repair_header by repair_number field.

I only want one items table to keep track of items sold as a product sale only, and items sold when used in a repair. I have been unable to accomplish this. so far

Either it cant be done, or,
I do not have the necessary fields in the items table, or,
I have not linked the tables in each set to the correct fields,
    or ???

I have studied Alpha Sports and other applications in this forum, but so far I have not been able to determine if it can be done. It is one of the major problems holding me back from converting from A4v8 to A5v10 for our business.

Can you elaborate and clarify? Your statement is a little confusing

Peter, a few weeks ago I found a revision to Alpha Sports.... probably on this board somewhere. It had a Quote Set added and it had a 'Copy to Invoice' button on the quote header form that had some interesting code on the OnPush event. This code was by Tom Cone dated 8/1/10. It could be the answer to my problem.

So, I have revised my Repair Set to include a repair_items table, and have added a Copy to Invoice button on my Repair Set form.
I am presently trying to revise Tom's code to work for my table and field names. I do not get any error messages when the button is pushed, but I do not see that it has created a new Invoice record either.

I'm not sure where I found this revision to Alpha Sports

A quick follow up. Tom Cone has answered my questions directly concerning script used with the "Copy to Invoice Set" button on the AlphaSports_modified.zip database. I have since modified his script to work in my App successfully.

Many thanks to Tom and others who are trying to help me with the conversion from A4v8 to A5v10.
