Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Xbasic function declaration - file upload

    I have created an xbasic function declaration for my user defined upload grid in my application, however when the function runs, i receive a 'fatal error' alert. I have looked through the code and can't see anything that stands out being wrong.

    The code is:

    function saveFiles as v (e as p)

    dim count as n

    count = e.filecount
    dim i as n
    dim arr as p

    arr = e.filearray
    dim cn as sql::connection
    dim cs as c
    cs = e.tmpl.cs.connectionstring
    cn.open(cs)
    dim sql as c

    sql = "insert into downloadtable (customerId, linkedFile) values (:customerId, :filename)"

    dim args as sql::arguments

    args.add("customerId",e.primaryKeyArray[1])

    for i = 1 to count
    dim fn as c
    dim data as b

    data = e.fileArray[i].data

    fn = "<file path>" + chr(92) + e.fileArray[i].fileName

    file.From_blob(fn,data)

    dim fntoStore as c
    fntoStore = e.fileArray[i].fileName

    args.add("filename",fntoStore)

    dim flag as l
    flag = cn.Execute(sql,args)

    if flag = .f. then

    e.javascript = "alert('Fatal error');"

    cn.close()

    exit function

    end if

    next i
    cn.close()

    e.javascript = "window.parent.{grid.object}.refreshLinkedContent();"

    end function
    p'}

    Can anyone see why this wouldn't run? I can connect to the SQL db so there should be a connection there.

    Re: Xbasic function declaration - file upload

    You can get more info in that error message.

    Code:
    dim lcErrorMsg as C

    flag = cn.Execute(sql,args)

    if flag = .f. then
    lcErrorMsg = "\"alert('Fatal Error "+js_escape(cn.CallResult.text)+"');\""
    e.javascript = eval(lcErrorMsg)
    cn.close()
    exit function
    end if

    I would also flag the connection.

    flag = cn.open(cs)

    if flag = .f. then
    lcErrorMsg = "\"alert('Fatal Error "+js_escape(cn.CallResult.text)+"');\""
    e.javascript = eval(lcErrorMsg)
    exit function
    end if

      How are you passing the e values to your function?

      function saveFiles as v (e as p)

        Re: Xbasic function declaration - file upload

        Thanks for this Frank,

        The additional error message has helped a good deal and it looks like there is an issue with my SQL tables where a NULL entry could not be inserted.

        Thanks again for the useful xbasic command. I certainly will be using this in the future for error reporting.

          Re: Xbasic function declaration - file upload

          Right, I have one last issue that hopefully someone on here will be able to help me resolve.

          I have created a user defined file upload based on the above xbasic function decalration. The issue I now have is with the customerid on the parent table of my linked grid. You see, when I carry out an upload on the first record, it copies the customerid and puts it in the child table for each upload. However, for records after the first one (customer id 2,3, etc), the customerid is entered in to the child table as zero and not the customerid.

          I'm not sure whether this has something to do with function declaration or the SQl set up of my tables but it does not seem to be taking the customer id after the first record.

          Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

            Looks as if this works fine on Working Preview so going to publish application and check from there.

            Apologies if ayone has spent there time looking at this issue.

              Cam,

              Were you ever able to get you issue resolved...?

              I too am having issues with my e.primaryKeyArray, works fine for the first record in my linked files table, but every record that is added after that is blank, or in your case 0.

              Working preview works fine.

              If you haven't fixed this issue yet, I will submit a bug report.

              Also debugger run with no issues.

              Thanks,
              James

                Re: Xbasic function declaration - file upload

                James,

                After hours of analysing my code and SQL db, the issue was resolved by going through 'Working Preview' or simply publishing the App. It appears that it didn't like it in 'live preview' for some reason or another.

                Since it worked when published,I just left it but it may be worth reporting as a bug.

                Regards,
                Cammy
