I would like to have a grid where I can update one field, and have it show up linked to all fields in another grid, but I would like to have the next field linked only to the data in the original grid.
I have attempted to have a row expander, though I disliked this idea, but did not know how to link to a grandchild. I attempted to use a linked grid in the field section, only showing one field, but again did not know how to link the fields.
Upon searching these forums I found a reference to using a select statement, and thought that might solve my problems, and make the grid look how I wanted.
I linked the grid with 2 fields, one to the master table, and one to the child table. But when testing it, and attempting to put a record into the grid, I get the message:
Error running Grid:
Record cannot be inserted because the linking field(s) are not updateable.
Check to see that the Grid contains the linking fields,
and that the control type for each linking field is set to an
updateable control type (e.g. Textbox, Textarea, Dropdownbox, Radiobutton,
Checkbox or Hidden). Note that the 'Link' control is not updateable.
i cannot figure out why. Everything in the grid is updateable, and everything is listed as a text box, except for one field that is a text area, and html. But the last field allows a null.
I even went to the sql table, and removed the foreign keys.
Even though I want the linked fields hidden, I am having them show to see that they in fact do link, and clicking of different fields changes the field in the editable part of the grid exactly like I think it should.
The only idea I am left with is the linked fields in the sql statement. i have an ID field that is set to auto-increment, and it is/was the foreign key that links the tables in the sql statement. My assumption is that they would automatically update together because of the sql link. But I don't know if that assumption is correct or not.
