Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Richard - it's a wonderful product - you and the team have all done a great (remarkable) job delivering one of the most innovative products in it's time to us.

I'm certain whatever revenue model you offer will always be in the best interest of the Alpha family of users and being fair and equitable to those who see the light and climb on board to join the family.

As for the depth and skill of the members of the board - could not agree more. Thank you.

Richard, Sorry is the math wrong

      3 subscriptions x 1499 = 4497
      3 extra server copies to handle the load x 249 = 747

      Total of $5244

I realize that I do not have to purchase anything I am simply stating that I wouldn't with this pricing Obviously if the new WAS will handle the load I wouldn't need to purchase the extra server copies.

Richard can you confirm that the WAS will be running IIS?
and if v11 is this close will Alpha be releasing any further feature packs?

Sorry I was also assuming that the server is only 249 but that could be way off.

      Thanks

        Richard,
Consider splitting the fee into monthly payments, a true subscription. Yesterday I had to buy two of those millions of Ipads being sold for my kids with accessories, and a cash card of course! $Ouch$!

Also maybe offer the promo rate until Feb 1 to allow Christmas to be absorbed.

Amazing product nothing wrong with improving your bottom line! A predictable revenue stream allows for a sound business plan and a stable healthy improving Alpha5.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Chad as 1 developer you would only need 1 subscription and each subscription comes with a WAS

IIS is part of our plan

          Thanks

            Richard,

Thank you for the clarifications and insights into the new version. Is it safe to say that the performance of the WAS will be better in v11? Will it be able to handle more concurrent users than v10?

I REALLY love the Alpha product line!! It allow me to do SO much more than I could with Filemaker. My only concern is the WAS performance and ability to service larger numbers (ie. 150) simultaneous users.

Thanks again for your great products.

I guess I have been purchasing to many developer licenses then. I currently own 4

How do you use active link tables for reporting purposes on a server with no developer installed on it? Maybe I missed the how to on that.

Or Does this subscription allow me to use multiple copies of developer?

from what I remember, you're allowed two use 1 license on two computers (in theory, 1 production, 1 development i think).

Greg thanks for your very nice comments. Functionality and productivity are key objectives that we aim for so it is gratifying when customers recognize this in Alpha Five.

Yes you will see improvements in web server performance.

In addition are you aware that you can handle multiple hundreds or even thousands (and above) of simultaneous users with Alpha Five by running multiple instances of the WAS on a server front ended by a load balancer? For example we have tested Alpha Five serving 1000 simultaneous users running multiple versions of the WAS spread accross two servers?

In addition, earlier this year we announced "packs" of multiple copies of the WAS at much lower prices per WAS (versus buying WAS licenses individually,) to make it very affordable to run multiple instances of the WAS on a server

That is correct - 1 developer license can be used on two machines provided they are not on the same network. The intent here is that we recognize that a single developers is likely to own and do development work on more than 1 machine.

v11 offers HTML reporting Chad - so the need for having the Amyuni PDF print driver will go away!

Richard, can you explain what it means to 'run Alpha WAS under IIS'. Does that mean a significant increase in performance, if so technically how and why? Does that mean the Alpha WAS disappears as we know it, or is it still going to hit an Alpha web app server as normal, but front-ended with IIS?

You should be able to place a button or schedule a script to refresh your passive links in the run time.

The only time I've seen an error in runtime is when you try to refresh at the control panel / tables/sets.
