Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Errors During Load

After upgrading to Build 3739_3629 I get the following message during startup. I've searched the forum but the answers were a bit overwhelming. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to resolve this. I'm running Win7 64 bit. thanks in advance.

    "
Error running addin 'Startup_100_Register_Controls' :Could not open OLE Object '{80C2583C-A05B-44B8-851E-95B288CA2CDE}'

Need to run one of the register bat files (see attached) located in your A5v10 folder. One is for Windows VISTA/V7 and the other for XP

I ran the BAT file for Vista/V7 and it didn't fix the problem. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

        Brad, more clues please.
What specific error message are you getting?
Has vers 10.5 ever worked, or is this the first time you've tried to start it?
Are you starting Alpha Five by itself, or are you trying to open a database from a shortcut?
Have you tried reinstalling while logged in to Windows with administrator priviileges, after rebooting Windows?
What's your environment... are you a workstation on a network, a stand alone machine, what?

          Re: Errors During Load

Sorry. I knew more details was important.

The only time I've ran across this error is with the Runtime on a Windows7 system. The error is ...
Error running addin 'Startup_100_REgister_Controls' :Could not open OLE
          object '{80C2583C-A05B-44B8-851E-95B288CA2CDE}

          What I've tried to do:
          Run the RegisterFilesVistaWin7.bat file - Didn't work

Using Astrum via an Upgrade install, I registered the following fields and upgraded my clients system (didn't work) ...
          Codejock.PropertyGrid.v11.1.3.ocx
          Codejock.ReportControl.v11.1.3.ocx
          Codejock.SuiteCtrls.v11.1.3.ocx
          Codejock.TaskPanel.v11.1.3.ocx
          a5controls.dll
          a5contexteval.dll
          XBasicActiveScripting.dll

I don't know what else to try.

          Thanks Tom

Sorry, can't help. Know nothing about Astrum.

I remain curious about the questions I asked that seem to have been overlooked. Perhaps answers there would give others a chance to help.

It's not possible to tell from what you've posted so far whether this is a problem that's unique to a specific machine, or whether you're unable to use the runtime (and your app) on any of your client's machines. Obviously, if it s unique to a specific machine perhaps the solution lies in determining what's different about that machine, as compared to others on the client's network.

              Re: Errors During Load

It was a single user install (no network). The runtime works fine AFTER you hit OK on the error message. While the error message does NOT affect the program from working as designed, it's a nuisance and looks unprofessional to the end user to have that error message come up. I'm just trying to appease Windows7 so that error message stops coming up EVERY time someone opens the program on Windows7.

I have software programs that once someone buys it they are re-directed to a download page where they can install the program. The idea is my not needing to spend my time doing installs.

Who knows, maybe this is an isolated cituation, but you now know as much as I do.

                Re: Errors During Load

I just installed an app with runtime on win7 64 bit using latest build a5 v10.5. I copied the files to the system(no astrum) and ran the program. There had already been an install of runtime in the normal folder(I deleted first). It gave the same error as you(I think). I went to the runtime folder(happens to be c:\racecar) and ran BOTH bat files. Restarted computer and all was well. I then created a shortcut from alpha runtime to start the app(took 6 tries - but it worked). I made sure I was logged on as an administrator.

This is not my normal way. I use astrum and make sure I include the registry settings needed and the app runs the bat files at first start. That is only part of it, of course. My app is underneath the runtime folder("c:\racecar\racecar" in this case.

One thing maybe, Did you make a bootstrap to take care of all those things before loading your app the first time?

                Hope it helps.

PS I am currently working with the install in astrum for this particular app. I have also made an exe instead of the alpha generated shortcut.

                  Re: Errors During Load

I got into this thread after I moved a5v10 from ..\Program Files (x86)\.. to ..\Program Files\.. to fix Oracle ODBC problem. Simple removal and reinstall did not fix the problem.

Be very sure you run the bat file as administrator!!! The first couple of times I missed that little detail and it failed.
