Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Is their a formula to create an in use notification?

    Greetings,

    I have an application that is being used on a network server. So far, only two users use this application. Is their a formula that I could add to the application so that either one or the other user whould know if that application is being used at that time? Something like a flashing graphic or text saying "Now In Use". I thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Pat

    A5_registration_license_inuse()
    There can be only one.

      MUFFile = file.filename_parse(a5.get_name() ,"dpn") + ".muf"
      dim Mufusers as N
      Mufusers=a5_registration_license_inuse(MUFFile)
      msgbox("Mufusers",str(Mufusers))

      dim RMUFFile as C
      RMUFFile = file.filename_parse(a5.get_name() ,"dpn") + ".rmuf"
      dim RMufusers as N
      RMufusers=a5_registration_license_inuse(RMUFFile)
      msgbox("RMufusers",str(RMufusers))

      dim totalUsers as N
      totalUsers = a5_registration_license_inuse(MUFFile) + a5_registration_license_inuse(RMUFFile)
      msgbox("DB Usewrs",str(totalUsers))
      Then open the DB, once using the full developer version and 2 times with the runtime. Running the script in the runtime results in what I would expect, namely 1, 2 and then 3 with 3 being the total # of users. But run it in the developer version and I get 1, 0 and 1. Seems like a bug, doesn't it?

        Come on now, Ray. Why in the world would you think that A5_registration_license_inuse(<rmuf>) should work when run from a full version? Or that A5_registration_license_inuse(<muf>) should work from the runtime?

        Go ahead and send a bug report. However, based on the fact that I reported it and complained about it more than once a few years ago and Alpha has chosen to do nothing about it (I don't even recall getting a response), I have to assume that one of two things is true: (A) it's just crazy to think they should work that way or (B) there is some technical reason it can't easily be done. There may be a third reason but I won't go there.

        My solution (actually created before these functions were available so it wasn't really a solution to this specific problem) was to create my own login/security system that creates a file on the server with the encrypted machine name of everyone that logs in and removes the machine name (via the OnDatabaseClose script) when the app closes.

        It would be really, really nice if someone at Alpha would either fix this or at least tell us why it can't be fixed. It's the main reason I won't use their built-in security.

        Yes, I know some of the above is a bit snide but this is another long standing problem that has been ignored and we are not the only people who have found it and wish it was fixed. I've seen/heard similar complaints from others.
