Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Menu Item

    I've been attempting to get this to work in ver 10 as it had in ver 5.

    We have a custom menu for our client information system (see attached). One of the menu items is a "Photo" button that, if a photo exists, will display a photo of the client. If a photo doesn't exist I want the Menu Item disabled. Form name is "Client_Reg"

    Te following code is part of the "on_fetch" event for the form. If I leave it uncommented out, the script hangs at the line: :Client_Reg.MenuItemEnable("P&hoto",.T.)

    I need to close completely out of Alpha to get past it.
    Code:
    V_client = Client->ssn
    imagename = "G:\casereg\image.dbf"
    IF exist(V_client,imagename,"ssn")
    	:Client_Reg.MenuItemEnable("P&hoto",.T.)
      else
      	:Client_Reg.MenuItemEnable("P&hoto",.F.)
    END IF
    On the Menu itself, I have code that should enable or disable the item (see attached), however, the menu item is ALWAYS disabled even when it finds an ssn that does exist in the associated file.

    Does anyone see something that I am missing, or is this a bug?

    Tom

    Did you update the indexes?

      Re: Menu Item

      Indexes are all updated. I even tested the code with an ssn that I know existed, and the test came back as ".T."

        1-Don't have v10 and can't test.. but.. take out the ampersand (from the menu item name itself and from the code) and restest.
        2-Test with other menu items

            Re: Menu Item

            Take out the expression from the menu, write a script on a button or something else to enable/disable the menu item.
            This is the end of the road for me since I can't do any testing.

              Thanks, G.

              I'll try the button approach. I have already tested with the code off of the menu item. No difference.

              Thanks for your suggestions, though.

              ...sorry about the Saints:(.

                Either it was a jet lag or the defense was still in the hotel room! I am fixing to take that helmet off! I am disgusted.

                  Think about how I feel with the Giants. They play like mad the first half, then the defense goes home, and Eli forgets the color of his jersey!

                  At least (for now) the Jets are still in the hunt.

                    I want the Seahawks to go all the way now! Just to show that this playoffs don't make any sense!
                    You could play great all season long and screw up one game and that's that!

                      Just tried the script on a button.

                      Removed the "enable" code from the menu.

                      "found" a client that has a photo, click the button, Item is enabled.

                      Go to next client (no photo), click button, ALPHA Hangs.

                      Curious!

                      Code:
                      DIM ssnF as C
                      DIM clt as P
                      clt = table.current()
                      ssnF = clt.ssn
                      IF exist(ssnF,"image","ssn")
                      	:Client_Reg.MenuItemEnable("Photo",.T.)
                        else
                        	ui_msg_box("","No photo for ssn "+ssnF)
                        	:Client_Reg.MenuItemEnable("Photo",.F.)
                      END IF
                      delete ssnF

                        Just put a simple script on a button to disable the menu item (not looking for any photos or anything else):
                        :Client_Reg.MenuItemEnable("Photo",.F.)

                          Re: Menu Item

                          Why would it matter. If a photo exists, enable it, if not, disable it. that's pretty simple to me. In either case, if a photo does exist, the item is enabled, or if a photo doesn't exist, the item is disables. FIRST TIME ONLY! The next fetch, when I press the button, the system hangs no matter what the result of the "exist" command. Either of the ":Client_Reg.MenuItemEnable" will cause the system to hang after the command is processed once.

                            I am trying to narrow down where the problem is:
                            Is it in searching for the photo?
                            Or is it in disabling the menu item?
