Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Detail View Error: "Could not get count of records in query. Success "

I got the same error message the other day when I had built a grid on my development machine that included fields not yet in my app server machine SQL tables. Don't know if that'll help or not...

Most likely you have an invalid field in the fields list of the grid or the detail or the search portion.

Check if you see a red message at the bottom of the fields list in grid/search/detail - 'Show Errors'.

I faced this and found that I have invalid fields in the fields list after I changed a field in my database (mySQL), maybe the name of the field.

This often happens whenever I change my SQL definition by adding or removing other tables to the grid. Doing this can make field names become ambiguous and therefore has to 're re-qualified'. You can try removing the fields and adding them back. The proper qualifications will be assigned/updated.

Re: Detail View Error: "Could not get count of records in query. Success "

I had this issue when I swithed from a MySQL Table name to a MySQL View as my grid's data source. If you have a grid with a Detail View, make sure that your 'Table Alias' properites are defined properly for updatable fields.

Click: Detail View / Fields / Update Settings / Table Alias

Also, if you have any Table Aliases defined for Lookup fields, you may need to check those as well.

Thanks for the info. I still sometimes get this. mostly i noticed that a field name is no longer present, or a tables is not named correctly (i.e. alias) as you've stated above.

            thanks

              This error has returned...
if i preview by clicking the desired browser from withing A5 then it shows just fine... once i publish and send to the web i get the error... Could not get count of records in query.
I've cleared the cache... check everything that you all posted.
              any ideas?

also, the query executes just fine when copied and pasted to MySQL (Navicat), and within the query builder...
I took out all the fields and put them back
                nada!
                ugh..
                help!

Please tell us your story of success.
I've been experiencing the same problem with odbc connection.
The databse is the same, on client and on server. Name of odbc connection is the same. Aliases are correct. Still have there "could not get"

We just had this error and finally tracked down the issue:

-In the grid query we had a link to view that calculated a count and sum in a related table (for display in the grid).

-A new record would be added but when Alpha tried to redisplay the grid, the dreaded "Could not get count of records in query." appeared. We assume the message appeared because Alpha couldn't see it when trying to redisplay the newly created record,.

-Changing the join to the view to be a left-outer-join solved the problem.
