Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dissappearing Filter on Apply Range

When I try top use Apply Range in V 10.5 it does not work correctly. It either deletes the filter when I search my a new value based on the existingf index in the Apply Range, or doesn' apply the filter at all.

Does the filter contain a variable, if so is the scope at least shared?

Re: Dissappearing Filter on Apply Range

Andrew, please either post a sample database with instructions for us to follow to see the problem, or furnish instructions we might use with the sample AlphaSports database. The exact sequence you follow is key, and cannot be determined from what you've supplied so far. Thanks.

No variables Indexed by a Bill to Code (tied to a child-customer database) this is done while invoicing for a period of 1 week or more. That is it. Each time I search by the bill to code the date filter deletes. In other uses of the Apply Range it plain ignores the filter (again date based and always using the Pickup date between date A and date B).

Re: Dissappearing Filter on Apply Range

Not sure I can create a database and haven't tried it in the Alpha database as I am a user not a developer and this is the first upgrade this has happened in. AS far as the sequence, when in a simple database with 1 child I open the Apply Range screen. I index it by Bill To Code. The filter is a date range in this case say 1/24/11 - 1/28/11. I mark the filter active. I hit home and it goes to the first record in that date range and the first Customer Alpha Numeric Code(in this case AME55. If I then hit ALT K and search for another customer Alpha Numeric Code say PRE03 when I open the Apply Range window the filter is gone and the filter is no longer applied. Screen shots enclosed in attachment the lower is the before and the upper is the after.

I was a=ble to duplicate this in Alphasport. Open invoices, Goto "Apply Range".Index by Customer ID. Make the Filter Date between 1/10/07 and 7/14/07. Enter. Hit first record. Find by key enter "00000044". Go back to Apply Range (ctlr r) you should see the filter is no longer in place even though the filter box is checked.

I was told by Alpha 5 they are aware of this and don't intend to support ranges in the future and may actually remove the option all together. Forced to use Special Queries from her on out. Of course I have to ask about 4 times before I got this answer.

I cant see any screenshots. That would help to see what it looks like that you are describing?

Did someone else create the original database and framework of forms and sets that you continue to use?

No I created this database and scrrenshots not relevant anymore since as I said this is a known issue with no intention to resolve that I am aware of.
