I stumbled across this quick and easy method for getting read only data from your Alpha System on to your Iphone / Ipad.
1) Create a report that contains the data you wish to hold on your Iphone/Pad and email this report as a PDF attachment to the email address you use on your mobile device.
2) Open the attachment on your mobile device and using the button in the top right hand corner of your device screen select the option to "Open in Ibooks"
3) The PDF report will then be saved in the PDF section of your Ibook case and can be opened and searched using the PDF tools therein.
4) You can use this approach as frequently as you wish and in each case the PDF will be saved as a new version and using the edit button in the IBooks application you can delete older copies at will.
Clearly there are a number of limitations to using this method but it is simple and foolproof.
I am currently running trials with some 3rd party software that allows you to design forms on the Iphone and synchronise the data on your desktop and mobile device using local or over the net wifi.
This seems like a perfect solution for data entry in the field when Internet 3g access is not available (quite a lot of the UK in other words) . The software works really well but is limited to a single user mobile device as far as I can see. If anybody wants details of this please send me a message.
