Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: *unbound causing error

    Dave,
    I have this code in my Inline java script on the button's onclick script in the parent:

    v_company={grid.object}._getValue('G','COMPANY',{Grid.RowNumber});

    and this code in ongridrender in the child grid :

    {grid.Object}._setValue('G','COMPANY',{grid.RowNumber},parent.v_company);
    Getting an error in the child grid as soon as I save it.

      Re: *unbound causing error

      I tried my original code using getvalue and setvalue and it's working now... don't know why. I figured it should because I just wind up with a variable set from the parent. So... you can set a variable from the parent or you can do all the work in the child... doesn't seem to matter.

      Code:
      var lname = ""
      var po_rowNum = ""
      var po = {grid.Object}.getParentObject();
      if (po) po_rowNum = po._selectedRow;
      if (po) lname = po.getValue('G','LASTNAME', po_rowNum);
      var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;
      x = {grid.Object}.setValue('G','DUMMY',rowNum,lname);

        Re: *unbound causing error

        Here's the code that's working for me. Since the objects, etc. from other pages are not available during development you have to test for them.

        Code:
        if (parent.v_lname) x = {grid.Object}.setValue('G','DUMMY',rowNum,parent.v_lname);
        Actually v_lname (without the parent.) works as well. But, I guess it's better to reference the source of the variable.

          Re: *unbound causing error

          Dave,
          I asked Bob on his original post to show the rest of the code to populate the field in the child grid.

          I tried your code, but it is still hanging up. I tried Bob's additional code but am probably missing something.

          What urks me is that it's probably a one liner!

          Tks

            Can you post your database, or a segment of it... that will help figure it out. The code does work, and just like you want it to.

              Dave,
              Can you just post what's in the inline java script for the button of the parent, and what you have in the ongridrendor event of the child grid?

              I am confused on what your using where.

              Three nights aagh! If that doesn't help I'll post a database.
              I appreciate your help.

              Tks

                Why are you using selectrow all the help uses {Grid.RowNumber}?

                  I attached a sample. I didn't code it. It's in a zip created by Alpha's Back up utility.
                  Tks again,

                    Re: *unbound causing error

                    The problem is that, in your case, you're working with a new record. My database was not set the same way... now I see why it's not working for you. Now we have to find a way to put the new record into an edit mode without having to click into it.

                    Or, create the record, then open it... but that causes other potential problems.

                      Re: *unbound causing error

                      Always turns out to be something simple... yikes...

                      Either one of these statements will work...

                      Code:
                      //$('TABLE_ORDER_VUPH.V.R-1.DUMMY').value = parent.v_name;
                      $('{grid.componentName}.V.R-1.DUMMY').value = parent.v_name;
                      It doesn't set the grid into edit mode, but does set the value of the field to the variable that you set up in the table grid. The database is attached as well.

                        Thanks Dave,
                        Guess that will be my homework for tonight.
                        What does the $ sign do in Javascript ?

                        I tried works nicely. Is the first line in the ongridrendor event code, or is it just a comment? What does it do?

                        I thought the // was a comment or maybe it stops the code from executing until it is called?

                        Bob

                          // is just a comment - just wanted to show another way to get at the object.

                          $ is a shortcut to "getElementById"

                          We're going directly after the object by it's ID.
