Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Windows Folder - off subject

See attached image. What is the secret of opening a folder, placing it at a desired location so that next time you double click on the folder it opens in the same position?

    XP-Pro

See attached image: so I double click on "A5 exes" icon in the lower folder and I always want the upper folder to open at that location. Currently, it always opens in the upper left corner of the screen, more or less. Some folders seem to remember their position, but I haven't figure out why?

Re: Windows Folder - off subject

I've just been trying this Peter.
On this laptop - XP - I have a shortcut to a folder on the server.
If I click through, size and position to suit, exit and go back in - it's where I left it. Move and close and it reappears where it was last moved.
But you will have done that I suspect, and it probably only works in the current session.

    Nothing on the Microsoft site?

      This any good?

      Off the web
"Everyone remembers this from Windows XP. You goto My Computer/Tools/Folder Options.../View and there used to be a check box for "Remember each folder's view settings"

Re: Windows Folder - off subject

For Firefox and Internet Exploring using the "x" in the upper right will disregard the location and size. However using the exit function under the file menu will keep the settings.

This may hold true for Windows Explorer windows.

            Wish you hadn't started this!

            http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/to...-open-windows/

I asked the Technical guys here, about this and you will obviously need a Get and Put function. It seems to be used quite frequently, so hopefully the script in the link will help. They started talking Java, and the lights went out.
It is possible that Xbasic can capture the data you need but that's a bit too deep for me Peter.

Ted, that code seems to be for a browser window(s), not desktop folders.

Re: Windows Folder - off subject

Done it! Well on this PC anyway.

Tools/Folder Options/Browse Folders - Set to "Open each Folder in its own window". You will have set the "Remember each folder's view settings" in Tools/Folder Options/View.

Open folders, size and place where you want them.
CTRL + X to close them. Don't just click the X. This forces a registry entry.
                  Reopen in any sequence.

                  Works for me.

However, I suspect you want this to run from an app? If so then that's a bit beyond me.

                    Ted,

I don't see that option. I already had checked "Remember each folder's view settings" in Tools/Folder Options/View. But I don't see - Browse Folders - Set to "Open each Folder in its own window"?

                    Are you using XP-Pro?
