Smile Alpha Five v10.5 running as a service

I have pretty much figured out how to run Alpha Five as a service under windows server 2008 however I have an issue with the command line structure.

Can anyone shed some light on how to run the a5v10 server from the command line and not send output back to the screen as this is stopping the server from loading as a service.

There are a number of command line switches for a5server that I cannot figure out.

Either this or has someone else figured this out?

Not what you're asking for, but lots of developers, including me as of the last month or so, use AlwaysUp which runs as a service and then starts (and restarts as needed) A5 within it. Worth checking out.

This is not an available option.

    Lenny,
Is that a "not available yet" or is Alpha not capable for some reason? I ask because I have no idea what's involved but Alpha has become a server application, no more desktop for me!

I am using AlwaysUp to start up Alpha5 A5ApplicationServer.exe. But I find that when I start Alpha5 usign AlwaysUp, the e-mail does not work. If I manually start Alpha5 - the e-mail works. Is there an argument to enable e-mail? thanks!

You need to login in to always up with your sever credentials. - its in the settings.

Thanks Peter. In the meantime I also tried using the Windows 2003 Resource Toolkit and then using command

    instsrv.exe a5v9Server c:\srvmkr\srvany.exe

I was able to get the Alpha5 service up with emails going as well!

    all good :)

I am having issues getting A5ApplicationServer to run as a service. If I use the instsrv.exe a5ApplicationServer c:\srvmkr\srvany.exe, it starts and stops. If I use instsrv.exe a5ApplicationServer d:\a5v10\ApplicationServer.exe, I get a message that the service couldn't be started in a timely manner. It is installed on a Windows 2003 R2 box, and the application will run and start the service just fine. Any help appreciated.

I followed the instructions in the PDF attached and it worked for me. Have you seen this and tried it?
