Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Google Charts API

    Hi

    Does anyone have a method for using Google Charts?

    I am a bit confused about how to generate the HTML and then what to do with the image that is returned- place in a pop up window?

    It seems to make sense to have a sql view containing the records based on name in table 1; and date + value from table 2 then set a filter based on arguments to return an array (date range + value + name). But then I am lost.

    Thank you!

    Check the list of links at the bottom of this thread. I take it you are not interested in Steve Working's Fusion Charts tool?

        Ive used this plugin before.
        Its a jquery plugin used to interface with the google charts API.
        It should suit your needs.

        basically you define a div with an id - and you specify that as your fill target for the chart, you set some options for the plugin.

        The return response from google is actually an image file.

          Example:
          Basic Bar

          //1 ) api
          var api = new jGCharts.Api();

          //2) options
          var opt = {
          'you probably want to use xbasic to generate this string if your data is dynamic
          data : [[153, 60, 52], [113, 70, 60], [120, 80, 40]]//mandatory
          };//set options

          //3) append Img (with jQuery)
          jQuery('<img>')
          .attr('src', api.make(opt))//options
          .appendTo("#bar1");

          Pretty easy to use. Take a look at the bar options in the above demo.

              Re: Google Charts API

              yep, the Google charts API is pretty easy to use. The steps are as follow:
              1) construct the chart parameters using xbasic
              2) Use HTTP_GET() or HTTP_POST() to get the result.
              3) The google server API will return a picture object with the desired chart.

                Thank you everyone!

                I may have more questions since this is the effect I am going for, but using a grid. I will put up a Jing when done for the rest of the community.

                  Re: Google Charts API

                  I hope you guys still read older posts. I think using data from the grid is the best way to go. The grid already contains the callback and has presented the information into HTML which JS can pull from. I combined data from two SQL tables (cause/effect data) with a Union so this becomes a cool grid to drill down data. The search fields are name ranges (anything in the two combined tables and date ranges by month.

                  What I am stuck on is getting an array from the grid into JS so that I can use JQuery for either Google charts or a jQuery graph. Once this is done it is down hill (I hope anyway). The wiki was not so helpful for this. Is there a better way to do this?

                  the SQL view has name, date, value

                  I am just trying to get "name" to show up in a div right now

                  After search I have tried two variation of code below:

                  var arr = $('NAME');
                  //shows "false" in div
                  var val1 = $('{grid.componentname}.G.NAME').value;
                  //shows "undefined" div this is low level JS typically used for search part

                  document.getElementById('graph').innerHTML = val1;

                  The final format will be
                  Series = name
                  [date,value]
