Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

"No printer configured" - Windows 2003 Server - Amyuni Version x64

    Hi,

I am having some trouble when I try to open reports from a Grid Button. I am using the "Print Report as PDF File" javascript action.

I suspect the problem is my Application Server is running on Windows 2003 x64. I did something similar in the past on a Windows XP PC, without any problem.

I realized the Amyuni Document Converter Alpha is installing is version 4.0.1.2. On Amyuni website, current Amyuni Document converter is version 4.5, and it is compatible with 2003 Server x64.

Has anyone succesfully printed a report from a Windows 2003 x64 Server?

Do you think I can buy a Amyuni Document Converter from Amyuni (costs 79 US$) and use it instead of the "AlphaFive PrinterV4"?

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried restarting the WAS or rebooting the server? I get this message when the WAS has been pinned from too many requests. Rebooting solves it for me. My server is 64 bit.

      Thanks Greg,

Rebooting the Application server or the Windows 2003 Server did not solve the problem.

Re-installing the Application Server did not solve the problem.

Then I deleted the AlphaFive Printer V4, re-installed the Application Server again, and started working again.

On the other hand, I installed the Amyuni Document Converter 4.5, I told AlphaFive Printer V4 to use the "Amyuni Document Converter 450" controller instead of the "Amyuni Document Converter 400" controller and it apparently works...

        Roger,

That's very interesting, because at the height of the discussions about the Amyuni driver, I called Amiyuni and they told me that purchasing directly from them would not work...that the version Alpha had licensed could not be updated. I was told that the version would revert back to the 4.0.whatever the first time it was used...

Maybe it is changed as part of the V11 preparation???

Do you get this same license screen after using the printer?

I'm sure there are many of us who would happily upgrade if this now works.

          Pat,

I have three instances of Amyuni:
          1. Alpha Five
          2. Intuit Quickbooks
          3. A purchased copy of it from Amyuni
I use the purchased copy as the default printer without a hitch from within Alpha Five. I also selected the purchased copy to print from within Quickbooks all without problem. To me it was well worth the $79 cost.

I have had numerous issues with X64 machines, whether Servers or Workstations, there are almost always some issues. When I got my latest Production Workstation with Windows 7 x64, I almost had to wipe it clean because I couldn't get the Alpha Addin A5Doc to install. The vendor released an update for me and I was able to keep it. Unless there is a specific reason, I use x86 versions whenever I can. It just seems to work.

You don't have to worry about Drivers, x86 programs not working, etc. I know that x64, under the right circumstances, runs faster and has more memory available, but until most applications are x64, it seems not worth the effort.

There is a specifiy reason: RAM.

In x86 you are stuck to 2 + 2 Gb RAM.

Microsoft SQL Server alone, will use the 2 Gb, add two instances of Alpha 5 Application Server, + Fax Server, + VMWare, +++

I know x86 is still marginally more stable with some software, but the extra RAM also contributes a lot to stability.
