email problems with secure connection

email has been working perfectly on a mixture of XP and W7 - then they changed from 'not requiring a secure connection for sending' to 'requiring a secure connection for sending.'

They use outlook - and I checked the pop3 settings and they have not changed. Outlook sends ok - but Alpha now fails on all machines - what do I have to do differently when they require connection for sending?

I have trtied every iteration I could think of - not no success

Are they using Active Directory?
You might need to get Alpha added as a valid mail app.

SSL?
TLS?
Which version?

Thanks Gabe - I've tried both and none - no luck
waiting to hear from IT if they need to allow us in Active Directory, as they do use Active Directory

just a few hours ago

there were two issues

1. they changed one of the characters in the password to uppercase and didn't tell me

2. before, when SSL was not required, the sending options for username were just the name, but for SSL require the full user email

all working well again
