Hello,
I'm not sure of the best way to go about this, so here goes:
i want a user (manager) to fill out a grid/form that registers their employees/staff members in a course. Many of the staff members will already be present in the database in the tbl_user table, some won't be. The ones that are are pretty straight forward to find/look up. it's the ones that aren't that i'm struggling with.
upon opening the grid the registration grid/form auto-populates the courseID and the user that is registering them for the course--that bit is easy. However, to associate a non-existant tbl_usr to the course (tbl_usr.UsrID) is the tricky part. I've put the field names on the grid form tbl_usr (multiple table join) i want the manager to fill out these fields if they user doesnt exist. otherwise they lookup and they populate.
The bit I'm struggling with is that if the user is not in the tbl_users, is it bad practice to add all the fields on the grid from tbl_user (name, address, email, phone, etc)? If so, then entering the new data/record for the new user doesn't give me a userID to save in the tbl_reg.userID. therefore i guess my question leads to: how do i get the new user saved in tbl_users while simultaneously saving the new userID to the tbl_reg. ? (I'm trying not to have too many screens for the user to flick between (i.e popup grids etc).
