Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Detail View

    Does anybody know how to call the Detail View from the response.redirect method?

    response.redirect("EmployeeFe.a5w?EmployeeFe_filter=SysID="+LastIdentityValue)

    I can get it to call the grid, but I want it to open the Detail View.

    Re: Detail View

    If the grid is for this purpose. You could put {grid.Object}.detailView(rowNumber) or any of the other detail view mwthods in the OnGridInitializeComplete event. Of course every time the grid is initialized the detail view would open.

      I know what the SysID in SQL is at that point. Is there a method that allows me to say {grid.Object}.detailView.SysId = (Whatever Number I'm passing)

        Re: Detail View

        You could use {grid.Object}.detailView(1) and it would open with the current record.

          Re: Detail View

          This is method I use to open directly a detail view (ill save you lots of time of experimentation).
          Create a n a5w page
          Insert the Grid you want to display its Detail view
          Go to the page "Source" an look for 'Following code allows you to override settings in the saved component.
          In the next line after that paste this text after the ".override_settings = " text

          Code:
          <<%override_settings%
          	search.has_search_component = .f.
          	HasQuickSearch = .f.
          	fields = 1
          	rows = 1
          	HasRecordsPerPageSelector = .f.
          	hasRowExpandColumn = .f.
          	hasCheckboxSelectColumn = .f.
          	show_column_titles = 1
          	DetailView.displayStyle = "OnPage"
          	DetailView.ShowNewRecordIfNoRecordsInQuery = .f.
          	DetailView.OpenMethod = "Click a hyperlink field"
          	DetailView.Toggle = .f.
          	DetailView.OnlyShowOnRequest = .f.
          	DetailView.HideGridIfDetailViewIsVisible = .t.
          	DetailView.HasCloseLink = .f.
          	DetailView.CloseDetailViewLinkLabel = ""
          	DetailView.CanClose = .f.
          	DetailView.total_records_row = ""
          	DetailView.CloseAfterSubmit = .f.
          	componentName = componentAlias
          	_gridFilename = "Pr_Actividades_Main_sql"

          customizationString.DetailView.toolbar = <<%txt%

                Re: Detail View

                Sorry to resurrect a semi-dead thread, Mauricio, I have this for my code
                Code:
                search.has_search_component = .f.
                search.HideGridWhenNoActiveSearch = .f.
                HasQuickSearch = .f.
                fields = 1
                rows = 1
                HasRecordsPerPageSelector = .f.
                hasRowExpandColumn = .f.
                hasCheckboxSelectColumn = .f.
                show_column_titles = 1
                DetailView.displayStyle = "OnPage"
                DetailView.ShowNewRecordIfNoRecordsInQuery = .f.
                DetailView.OpenMethod = "Click a hyperlink field"
                DetailView.Toggle = .f.
                DetailView.OnlyShowOnRequest = .f.
                DetailView.HideGridIfDetailViewIsVisible = .t.
                DetailView.HasCloseLink = .f.
                DetailView.CloseDetailViewLinkLabel = ""
                DetailView.CanClose = .f.
                DetailView.total_records_row = ""
                DetailView.CloseAfterSubmit = .f.
                I've only added line two, but for some reason DetailView.HideGridIfDetailViewIsVisible = .t. isn't working. The grid is still viewable even though the detail view is popped up below it.

                Edit: If line two isn't there (or set to .t.), neither the grid or the detailview show up.

                  Re: Detail View

                  the hideGridIfDetailViewIsVisible property only makes sense if 'onlyshowonRequest' is also set to .t.
                  you will notice in the builder that the 'hidegrid' prompt is hidden when 'onlyshownonrequest' is not checked.

                  so if you are going to override settings, you need to set both properties

                  tmpl.DetailView.OnlyShowOnRequest = .t.
                  tmpl.DetailView.HideGridIfDetailViewIsVisible = .t.

                  however, this will not be sufficient. you also need to set this property to recompute the grid properties

                  tmpl.flagMustRecalculateAllProperties = .t.

                  once you do this, when you open the Grid, the grid part will be shown - not the detail view - because 'only show on request' is set to .t.
                  however, when you click on a grid row, the detail view will be shown, and the grid will be hidden.

                  you would therefore need to have some javascript in the onGridInitialize complete to actually open the detail view.

                  {grid.Object}.detailView(1)

                    this open row one and i got it working and understood.
                    i set it to {grid.Object}.detailView(5) and it also works.

                    how do i have this set to current row ?

                    {grid.Object}.detailView(current_row ???)

                      var me = {Grid.RowNumber};
                      {grid.Object}.detailView(me);

                        Re: Detail View

                        your solution would only work for a button that was in a row. in that case {grid.rowNumber} would be replaced with the current row number at the time the grid was rendered.

                        however, if you only had a single button (that was not in a row), then {grid.rownumber} is meaningless, and your code should then be

                        Code:
                        var rowNum = {grid.object}._selectedRow;
                        {grid.object}.detailView(rowNum);
