Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Running Alpha Five WAS on Windows 7 Pro / Ultimate

Hi guys I'm newbie to alpha five and web programming.. I think I am really having a 'match' with Alpha Five..It only takes weeks for a regular admin boy like me who's used to Excel with little knowledge in Access and a bit of C++ from CS111 to get the hang of Alpha Five and making a workable application in localhost..

I think I'll be ready to deploy my application in an intranet in couple months so I'd like to get inputs on hardware/OS selection

Our company does most of its administration with pen and paper...No emails we even use very little Excel.. So getting Alpha Five is a huge step already and we wont be doing much records entry for 3 years

I predict we will only do 1000 records entry per day maybe for a year (maybe significantly less in couple first months) growing to maybe at most 5000 records in 3 years since I am going to develop applications step by step department by department..

So I think a regular Desktop PC with big RAM and Windows 7 Pro is going to be enough for my use is this fair enough assesment ? I mean convincing my boss to convert to Alpha Five is big enough I dont think presenting him with a budget for a server with Xeon+Server Mobo and RAID is going to fly well with him so I'd like to get this done on a budget that's easy for my boss' eyes

I did a search around the msg board and found recommendations for Alpha Five v7 and 8 but havent found anything recent on v10 so will appreciate feedbacks

Thanks before looking forward to be active in this community and share knowledge :)

Among other things, it depends on the number of users pounding away at the same time on your Intranet application. Your math seems odd: 1000 records per day times 3 years = 5000 records?

      Hi Steve Wood,

Sorry my english is messed up when i talk abt something new..I mean 5000 records per day in 3 years...

I think I wont exceed the 20 concurrent users limitation of win 7 even in 3 years time..i would say 5 concurrent at most... 10 maybe but will not happen soon enough...at what point will win 7 become unbearable ?

Sounds like that is adequate through the three years. Lots of developers are using Win7 as a hosting platform.
