Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    how to transfer session.variables between Javascript on HTML-page?

    Hello,
    I need a Javascript tot calculate a SHA-1 hash.
    Problem is: I have no knowledge in this aresa. Please tell me how to accomplish that the script uses a session.variable for input and how I get the output into another session.variable.
    Code:
    <!-- Java script for SHA-1 calculation -->
    <!-- Session.__Protected__SHAString contains the string to be hashed ('msg' in the Javascript) -->
    <!-- Session.__protected__SHAHash must contain the resulting hash from the script (the returned string) -->

    <script type="text/javascript">
            /* - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  */
    /*  SHA-1 implementation in JavaScript | (c) Chris Veness 2002-2010 | www.movable-type.co.uk      */
    /*   - see http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/ST/toolkit/secure_hashing.html                             */
    /*         http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/ST/toolkit/examples.html                                   */
    /* - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  */

    var Sha1 = {};  // Sha1 namespace

    /**
     * Generates SHA-1 hash of string
     *
     * @param {String} msg String to be hashed
     * @param {Boolean} [utf8encode=true] Encode msg as UTF-8 before generating hash
     * @returns {String} Hash of msg as hex character string
     */
    Sha1.hash = function(msg, utf8encode) {
    ... the script itself...

    I Found the way to use a session.variable in Java Script here.

    But how do I transfer the output of the script to a session.variable?

    The script ends like this:
    Code:
           return String.fromCharCode(cc); }
        );
      return strUni;
    }

        What I do is do an ajax callback to a user defined function that sets a session variable. I am not sure this is the best way. It seems like a lot of work just to set a variable, but it does work. This is assuming you have to get the variable from the client to the server. Hopefully you can make this work for your process.

        Here is an example of the javascript event. Note you have to add an under-bar to the beginning variable you want to sent to the xbasic function.
        Code:
        var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;
        var vsnJID ={grid.Object}.getValue('G','JID',rowNum);
        {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G',rowNum,'SetJIDSessionVariable','','_vsnJID='+vsnJID);
        Here if the xbasic function. The variable passed from the javascript event is contained in the e object.
        Code:
        FUNCTION SetJIDSessionVariable as c (e as p)
        	dim e.session.snJID as n
        	IF eval_valid("e._vsnJID")
        		e.session.snJID = e._vsnJID
        '		SetJIDSessionVariable = "alert('You submitted a value of: " + js_escape(e.session.snJID) + "');"
        	END IF
        END FUNCTION

          Depending on your needs, getting at the session.variables through <%a5 ?session.variables %> may work for you, but the value in this session.variable gets sets only when the page gets rendered, and not again.

          Once you've done your work in JS you could then do a {grid.Object}.setValue to set a hidden field on your grid.

          The grid Events can then be used to get at that hidden field.

            Thanks guys,
            I'm mixing up things, I guess. What I want to achieve: in a grid CanUpdate event I want to use session.vars. Some feed a javascript function, another should get the value of the output of the function.
            After that, the session.vars are used in fields in a form on a HTML-page.
            My challenge is:
            I have no knowledge of how to implement a javascript function in an Event and how to retrieve the result into a session.var.
