Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    {Grid.Object}._selectedRow gets wrong row number

    I've run across a situation where {Grid.Object}._selectedRow will return the wrong row number. Selwyn confirmed this. My example is when using a grid system event (OnGridRowCheck) with "has checkbox select column" selected. I don't know if the problem does or can exist in any other context. I get these results:

    Click Row1 - {Grid.Object}._selectedRow returns "1"
    Click Row2 - {Grid.Object}._selectedRow returns "1"
    Click Row2 (again) - {Grid.Object}._selectedRow returns "2"
    Click Row3 - {Grid.Object}._selectedRow returns "2"
    so it is always one behind.

    I was told to use e.rowNumber instead of {Grid.Object}._selectedRow and that DOES appear to work properly.

    Here is a test you can run to see if you have the same condition. Run this in the system event, again I was using OnGridRowCheck but you might be using onClick.

    var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow;
    var e_rowNum = e.rowNumber
    alert('Using _selectedRow: '+ rowNum +'\nUsing e.rowNumber: '+ e_rowNum);

    This will kick an alert that shows row numbers from both expressions.

    BTW, I had not seen this e.rowNumber before, didn't know it was available to provide the row number.

    Re: {Grid.Object}._selectedRow gets wrong row number

    Steve, using your code in the OnGridRowCheck event actually produces results that are a bit worse. It all works if you select the row first and then click the checkbox. But, if you click the checkbox on the first row, I get a _selectedRow of 0. If I click it again - turn it off - I get 1. If I then click on the checkbox in row 4 I get a _selectedRow of 0. e.rowNumber always returns correctly. So what I see is that the row must be selected first to get a proper return from _selectedRow. The checkbox is being evaluated before the row is being selected.

      I think you might add that to a bug report so they know why it happens. I placed it up here because I know that no one would think that the rownumber function, either of them, would ever be wrong.

      Note - I was told that if you wrap the function in setTimeout() with an appropriate delay, it will return the proper value. But I don't know how to do that and accept that using e.rowNumber is the solution.

        So should we go to the trouble of changing all {Grid.Object}._selectedRow references to e.rowNumber? Are there any places within the code that e.rowNumber won't work instead?

          It kinda makes sense that a setTimeout would produce good results - I'm assuming that would give the selection of the row itself time to complete, and then the checkbox would fire with good results. Last time I tried to submit a bug report (and I still thinks it's a bug) I was asked to purchase an incident and see where it goes from there so I'm a bit bug-report shy right now.

            I don't know the answer to that. Only offered it up here because it was a problem in my case and so you guys might want to test or know what's up if you spot a problem.
