Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Editing submitted New record with picture upload

    Dear All,

    I have an Online Registration system that allows users register their details. The registration page requires user to key in their information and also upload their picture.

    I am using a grid component for the registration form with allow update and allow insert properties set to true. Also, I have Number of new records rows property set to 1.

    What I want to achieve is that when I submit the form to itself <Self>, it should save the current record into the database and display back on the same form the data just entered in editable mode so that I can upload my picture.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Oluotes

    Re: Editing submitted New record with picture upload

    Please anyone has an idea on how to go about this? Or maybe my question is not clear.

    I want to be able to edit a new record in a grid on the grid itself. Usually, when you create a new record in a grid, it automatically clears the form once you submit/update the grid. I don't want the grid to be cleared. I want the data to show so that I can update the picture field.

    Help will be appreciated.

    Many thanks.

      Oluotes,
      Here are some advice from personal experience:
      1. Load always the image from a detail view;
      2. Show the button to upload the image after saving the row first;
      3. To keep the row open after saving it: in the detail view properties, don't close the detail view after submit so it stays open to upload the image;
      4. Always order the rows in the main grid (Query - order by);
      5. refresh the grid and detail view after uploading the image with a Javascript function like this (the function can be launched from the upload image dialog):

      function afterUpload() {

      {grid.Object}.refresh();
      {grid.Object}.detailViewRefresh();

      }.
      There are other threads on this forum explaining how to save the row automatically when opening the detail view.

          Re: Editing submitted New record with picture upload

          Hi, I have been looking to your thread to achieve uploading an image in detail view.

          However, your steps 4 & 5 are not as clear to me.

          I am working in a5V11 and am confused on where you "Always order the rows int eh main grid (Query-order by)" -I haven't been able to find this property so I'm assuming it may be code ?

          And on 5 I tried placing your code inline, but it did not work. I have also tried looking to other threads that explain how to save the row automatically after uploading.

          Could you emphasize on this?

          I'm basically just wanting the option to save my record after the upload, but the detail view is not registering that the field 'has been updated'

          Thanks,
          andi

            Re: Editing submitted New record with picture upload

            Hi Andi,
            This thread is no longer valid with version 11. It is now possible to upload an image from the main grid or dialog without saving the record before. It is not necessary to save the record after uploading an image in the detail view since the image is saved in the record automatically. And it is not possible to move on without saving other changes in the detail view.
            Regards.
            Luc
