Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calculation to display Image File Reference field form another table

    Is it possible to have a calculation field that will display the graphic identified via an Image Reference Field?

    Use this example...
    There is a settings table with a single record (Table Name = App_Settings). Within that table there is an IFR field (Field Name = Aslogo)

    There is a form (unrelated to the App_settings table) called Machine and on that form there is a calculation called cLogo.

    Is it possible to display the image defined in the Aslogo field within the App_settings table on the Machine form via the calculation cLogo? A lookup command or something similiar?

    The idea is to store a logo in one central location (App_Settings table) although have that logo/image displayed on every form. If you need to update the image you would change it within the App_Settings table and by default it would update every form.

    Ideas Anyone?

    Can you make a set with a one to one link by expression? 1 = 1

    Then copy the form to the set and add the field from App_Settings.

    Probably then need to delete the original form.

      Al, I would like to come up with a method that does not involve a set if at all possible.

          No specific issue on using a set. It's do'able and I will need to modify the forms anyway although I am curious if there is a way to display graphics via a calculation/variable, etc. I have other ideas that I could use the same concept on if it ends up working.

            you could place an "Empty" bitmap reference onto the form, then, again, in the "on_init" (or "on_Activate") load up the bitmat object with whatever you want.

            We have an employee form that shows their worker code, name, extension, etc. I have a bitmap field defined that displays their photo as well. I have this code in the "on fetch" event.

            Code:
            DIM tc as P
            DIM G_EMP as P
            dim badgeno as N
            'debugcheck()
            Init_idle()
            tc = table.current()
            G_EMP = table.open("g_employ",FILE_RO_SHARED)
            g_emp.index_primary_put("Emp_ID")
            found = G_EMP.fetch_find(tc.Emp_ID)
            if found >0
            	badgeno = G_EMP.badge_no
            	dim Shared pict AS C
            	pict = alltrim(str(badgeno,9,0))
            	bmpfile = "\\percy\v9pers$\photo"+chr(92)+trim(pict)+".jpg"

            	if .not.file_exists(bmpfile) then
            		bmpfile = "\\percy\v9pers$\photo"+chr(92)+"not_avail.jpg"
            	end if
              else
            	bmpfile = "\\percy\v9pers$\photo"+chr(92)+"not_avail.jpg"
            end if
            g_emp.close()
            topparent:Bitmap1.bitmap.filename = bmpfile
            below are screenshots of the form. as I lay it out, and as it is viewed. I apologize for having to show my photo. (I know it might scare some people)

              Nice, Tom.

              To get to what Scott wants he can perform your suggestion to place the bitmap (object name "logo_image") on each layout.
              Then add to his autoexec...
              Code:
              dim global bmpfile as C
              tc = table.open("App_Settings") 'table holding IFR field "aslogo" to be displayed on all layouts
              	bmpfile = tc.aslogo 'store the image location
              tc.close()
              Then the oninit for each form

              Code:
              dim global bmpfile as C
              topparent:Logo_image.bitmap.filename = bmpfile

                That would certainly be cleaner. One fetch, then its in memory.
