Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Netmailer Questions

    Hi all,

I need a solution to send bulk emails for newsletters.

I have seen Alpha offer Netmailer Pro. My understanding is that this can only be run on one machine as standard - this is fine. Can anyone tell me, is this a separate application or an add-on? The video and descriptions are not very informative. I was hoping to use the opt-in/out feature, but my user has more than one email addresses setup in outlook.

If anyone has used this, can you tell me, how hard/easy is it to implement?

    Thanks

    Re: Netmailer Questions

I have used netmailer pro in the past and it did a good job of handing bulk mail for outgoing. I never used it for the 'subscription' part. It is not hard to setup, but not easy either for someone new to Alpha Five or someone new to setting up email accounts. I used it for a couple of years and it was fine.
Having said that, I don't use it anymore. I have more control over my bulk email by writing my own code to do the processing I need making it easy for a newbie to use.

Keith - just the expert I have been looking for.

Can you tell me if their is some "standard" errors new users make with this?
I get the emails to download - have setup the maintenance, and have created different profiles to process more than one email address.
The issue so far is that I can't get anything to populate the bounce or subscribe dbfs
        Thanks!

I dont understand what are the bounce or subscribe dbf's?

Are these separate tables from the one you are sending the emails from?

            Re: Netmailer Questions

The maintenance job has 4 tabbed panels, one sets up the bounce.dbf, one adds subscribes to a dbf of your choice and one handled unsubscribe. The way I interrupt it is the maintenance routine is supposed to download the emails from the profile address, distribute them accordingly then do the necessary processing on the email list before it does the send.

How does it work in your scenario?

                Re: Netmailer Questions

                Hi Keith,
Thanks - That is exactly the procedure I followed, screen by screen. I can see the returned mail in the "read mail", and in the raw dbf, but when I run the maitenance routine it always comes up:
                0 bounces
                0 subscribe
                0 <forgot the third>
but - anyway - it is always zero, zero, zero - even though I can see the emails it should be grabbing.

Are you using this feature successfully? - I will go over the link you provided and double check, maybe I missed something in the advanced section.

Thank you for your time on this Keith.

                  Hi Bill,

TBH, I have not used this part of NetMailer, sometimes it takes a little practice to get these things right. Maybe I should give this a try!

Does NetMailer work with the Web Version? Any suggestions on alternatives if not?

                      Re: Netmailer Questions

You're not getting many replies about whether netmailer works with the web version here in the desktop area. Might get more responses in the web/application server area.
                      There can be only one.

I don't believe it does. You need the Alpha5 Runtime + the Net Mail Pro Runtime - and - I have yet to get it to work as advertised -

Was there ever a solution to this problem?

I am having the same problem Netmailer. Emails DO exist that should be put into the Remove and undeliverable dbf's.

The send works fine, but the "Removes", Subscribes, & undeliverable are not being handled.

I have gone over and over the documentation, and appear to be doing all that it describes.

Any suggestions? This is a "must have" for what we are doing. Else it's back to constant contact...

                          Thank you for your help!
